G&L L-1000 Bleg

Don't take this to the bank yet, but I think I have some good news!

G&L is up for doing more L-1000's and L-1005's, but it sounds like they're going to have to do some programming work to make that happen. I can only guess that something that used to be done by hand is now a CNC or Plek process? We didn't get into any details about that, but the rub is that there is a small cost of development on their end that they will want to absorb either of two ways: either we order enough quantity that the price doesn't have go up, or they can maybe do a smaller run and have the price of each bass be slightly higher than normal. Or it could turn into a mix of those two things if the quantities aren't there.

The numbers they're talking about are reasonable, 6-8 of each model (so call it 8 L-1000's and 8 L-1005's). I'm not sure we'll get that high with the L-1005's, so that model may be a non-starter. But I'm pretty sure we can get there with the L-1000's, and maybe we can get some excess L-1000's that we can credit towards the L-1005 quantity? Maybe they'll take 16 mix and match instead of a hard 8 and 8?

Anyway - the wheels are sort of in motion. G&L is still doing some legwork on their end, and then I'll have some finalized pricing and timeframe details available before too long.

I'd say go ahead and start holding your breath, we're getting close to making it happen... :hyper:

OK, it's a go!

I need to get to at least 12 instruments, and 3-4 of them need to be L-1005's. Or I can just do 4-strings with a minimum of 6 orders.

The basses will be $110 MSRP more than the L1500 and L1505, so that makes the starting MSRPs $2110 (L-1000) and $2252 (L-1505). That translates to a starting internet price of $1475 and $1575 (and my prices will be even better than those).

So with that said... we're open for business on these! I'll aggregate orders until we get to the minimum quantity, and then I'll submit all of them at once as a big batch order. I'm thinking that process might take about a month, so let's say we're shooting for somewhere around Oct 1-Oct 15 to get everyone's specs finalized and deposits submitted. That should result in the basses being delivered sometime in December or January-ish.

PM me your specs if you'd like a quote, and then a 20% non-refundable deposit will secure your place in line. IF we somehow don't manage to get to the minimum number of orders needed, I WILL refund deposits in that case. But if you just change your mind, you can cancel your order and your refund would be sent to you in the form of pedals, strings, etc.

Sound good? Who's first?!?

Oh wow. I think I'm in. I have to check with the wife and get my specs in order. I've been looking for a used Wunkay but used they are going for not too much less than a new one. I'm currently deployed, is there a timeline on this or can I wait about a week or so?

The original ones (early '80s) ... did they have 1 3/4" wide necks at the nut? 7.5" radius or something bigger? I assume that the fretboard options were either maple or ebony, but I have seen the occasional rosewood.

I am starting to think through all the options in putting together an order for a 4 string ... hence the questions.

I should also mention this here. I'll be extending my "Free BBE pedal" offer on these L-1000/L-10005 orders.

I've sort of half heartedly made this offer over the past couple months, but I've yet to have any takers. I've mentioned it a few times, and I'm totally serious about it. I've got Sonic Stomps, OptiComps and Boosta Grandes here just looking for a home, and I'll throw in any one of those free with the purchase of any G&L bass. While supplies last, yada yada.

If you've already given me a deposit and would like to get it on this, just PM me the name of the pedal that you'd like to have added to your order. It's free, no extra cost at all!

I've had a couple lefty players approach me about L-1000's (potentially 3 orders total, so far). Unfortunately, G&L's current stance is that they will not make any lefties as part of this run, but I think I might be able to tempt them if I manage to get a separate 6 orders for lefty L-1000's. So 12 total L-1000's and L-1005's (at least 3-4 5-strings) plus 6 lefty L-1000's would be the minimum. That's not real yet, I'm just hoping that will be the case if there's enough lefty interest...

Are there any other lefty players who might be interested in an L-1000?
