G&L L-1000 Bleg

Just posted this on the new G&L Kiloton thread:

Did some image analysis (with Image J if that interests you folks). The pickup on the Kiloton is in the exact same position as on the L-1500: on the D-string the centre of the pickup is 90% of the distance from nut to saddle edge. This happens to also be the exact same position as on a MusicMan Stringray bass. (Error here is no more than 0.5%.)

So...the Kiloton is, from the electronics viewpoint, an entirely passive L-1500 with a single coil option. The body seems to be an SB shape rather than the L/M shape. So there you go. Whether the MFD pickup is wound like that on the L-series is a question to be answered.

Hmmm...here's an overlay of the L-1500 on the Kiloton using images from G&L's site. Then there's a Stingray image. Although the image analysis showed a near-complete line-up, the image suggests the pickup on the Stingray may be slightly closer to the neck. Pretty darned close, though.

Hey Greg - do you know anything about this new G&L model?

Like price??

How's that for exciting? A new bass model on a Monday!

I'm waiting to get an exact number from G&L, but I believe MSRP is about $2000. So you'll see a bare bones one advertised online for $1399.99. Don't take that info to the bank just yet, though, let me hear back from G&L.

I've already ordered a pair of these, and they're just like the two shown in the demo video that G&L released. Alpine White/RW and Emerald Blue Metallic/MP. They should ship towards the end of this month.

We've been stuck at 3 deposits for a while now. My initial thought that we could easily get to 6 orders may have been overly optimistic. In the event that the L-1000 buy doesn't happen, folks are welcome to change their orders to the new Kiloton if that would scratch the itch.

I don't want to bail on this too soon, but I did promise G&L we'd make a go of it by Mid-October. So let's just draw that line in the sand. Anyone thinking about ordering a new L-1000, please let's work towards getting a deposit in my hands no later than October 15.
