G&L L-1000 Bleg

I'll give it a few more days to see if we can get another deposit or two. I'm happy to order a couple for my inventory, so we can definitely get to 6 orders. Unfortunately, at just 6 I won't be able to get any 5-strings made...

If anyone is on the fence about an L-1000 or an L-1005, now's the time to jump in!

Alright, it'll be time to close the books on this L-1000/L-1005 ordering period tomorrow!

With just one L-1005 order, I don't think I'll be able to get any made this time around. I've PM'd Mongo Slade to see where we go with his 5-string order that I unfortunately can't fulfill.

I've got 3 L-1000 orders, and I'll make up the difference with 3 orders for my inventory. So at least the 4-string part of this will be a go.

If anybody still wants to jump in, please let me know ASAP!!

OK, we're getting there! I just spoke with G&L's VP of sales, and he says they have a new head honcho in the factory as of 3 weeks ago. The new guy wants to review the cost of these L-1000's one more time, and they should wrap up that exercise early next week.

We were already paying a slight premium for these basses to help cover the cost of whatever programming work needs to be done to make them. I've offered to double that premium on all 4 orders (with no change to the prices I've quoted folks, so that would come out of my wallet). I'm also planning to order a bunch of Kilotons to make up for the fewer than anticipated number of orders. Basically, I'm trying to entice them as much as I can to get that single 5-string order built...

Anyway, it'll take a few days for that all to settle out. Fingers crossed, it will all be settled and officially on order sometime next week.

If there are any other folks out there lurking and on the fence, please let me know ASAP. Every extra order I can give them will make a difference. Thanks!

I think the lefty is just as bad as the 5-string, in the sense that it represents another piece of work to program some machine to make the first one. So adding a lefty would just make the situation worse, I'd be short even more orders...

Quick update, guys - I'm still trying to make contact with my guy @ G&L who was spearheading this L-1000 effort. He is the VP of sales, and I usually have no trouble making contact. But every day this week, I've either called and left a message or emailed, but I've yet to receive a reply. I'm branching out my search now to some other contacts at G&L. My guy may just be on vacation, or maybe he got caught up in the recent personnel changes at G&L. I hope it's not the latter, he's a great guy who has been very helpful to me over the years.

Anyway, I know this is taking a lot longer than I anticipated. I'm very sorry about that, but I'm going to keep on keeping on. We'll make this happen. I really appreciate everyone's patience.

After much pulling of hair and gnashing of teeth, these are finally officially on order!! Yeah!!

There is some fixture work and CNC programming that needs to be done on G&L's end, but the sales guys and the factory guys are on the same page now. So hopefully this all comes together fairly quickly. And even better, should we ever decide to try this again, things should work much, much more smoothly. Once the fixtures have been made and the programming has been done, it doesn't have to be done again (at least as long as G&L sticks with their current way of making things).

I also had to order some "available" instruments from G&L as part of this deal since I didn't get up to the 12 orders that were needed to make both the 4 and 5-string models happen.

The LB-100 continues to be my favorite G&L model, so I just went with 5 of them. These are all 9 lbs or less, which is an added benefit of buying off the available list!

These should arrive within 1-2 weeks since they're already built. They are all very much available, and I'm going to make some really nice deals on these since I wasn't planning to stock additional pieces are part of this L-1000 run. Interesting "inside baseball" sort of news. The guy I was dealing with on this L-1000 batch, G&L's now former head of marketing and sales, is no longer with the company. I was wondering why our communication had been so erratic in November and December, I'm guessing he had one foot out the door. I REALLY had a hell of a time getting this L-1000 thing pulled together, and this finally explains some of it to my mind...

So in the last 3-4 months, G&L has a new head guy in the factory (Ben Rush) and now a new head guy in sales (Ron Moreno). They're both top notch cats who have been at G&L in other roles for quite some time, so I'm excited to see what they make happen for G&L in 2017!

Oh, snap - I just received an invoice from G&L! Two of the L-1000's and the L-1005 have shipped to me, so I should receive those this coming Friday!

These are the ones that have shipped:

L-1000 (Vintage White) for TB'er tsl
L-1000 (Tobacco Sunburst) for TB'er jmlee
L-1005 (Jet Black) for TB'er Mongo Slade

There's still one more special order L-1000 as well as the 3 L-1000's that will be inventory pieces for me. I assume those will all follow very soon.
