Are the pickups in Tribute JB-2 the same ones as in american G&L JB's?

I don't recognize this bass. I'm confused by the pickups, and the lack of switches. What's the model? It looks awesome.

Hi Huge. This is an Indonesian JB-2 that I bought specifically as a vehicle for the (RWRP) pair of Dark Star pickups it is wearing. It never had any switches, just a pair of jazz pickups, and v/v/t controls.

As nice as these are it's a wonder G&L still sells their US models. I know the US models are a better refined but how much more so I don't know, can't be that much.

If you buy a US version of your Tribby (in the same color), you'll realize how close they are the moment you start to sell the Tribby for the $350-$450 they sell for used.

You'll be like "why would I sell this now - I'm only getting $350 for it and it's as good as that $750 US version - no way I can sell it for that little".

And you'll end up with two G&L's of the same model on your hands.

Ask me how I know.

I think he's trying to say don't sell your tribute. And if you buy a USA G&L thinking you'll then sell your tribby, you'll be left with 2 G&L basses.

And something tells me he speaks from experience.

Here is my JB2. I love it. Currently strung with TI-flats. So effortless to play. The wood grain and sunburst are very nice but really hard to capture accurately in pictures.

Not a great shot, but this is my M2000 Tribute GTB. It is my third Tribute. I have a first generation SB-2, a JB-2 and the GTB.

2006 L2k Trib bought used at Sam Ash in Indy when I was there to see the Moto GP race a few years ago.
Managed to score a new "B" stock (hence the lack of decal) #8 SB-2 Trib neck straight from G&L and had her swapped in. I did not like the 1.75' nut on the original neck. Now she's an awesome player. Thought about selling it a few times to get a USA one but I've got too much $ in it to flip it now.

I'm a big G&L fan and think the Tribs are a great value. I currently have two.

The Trib SB2 has been modified with a neck humbucker (DiMarzio Will Power neck) after I tried a Yamaha BB714BS and loved the tones but not the ergonomics. Controls are vol/vol/vol with a master tone and a tone cut switch that applies only to the neck humbucker. Great tones and lots of fun to play - big, woolly mudbucker tone when desired (with the tone cut switch).

The Trib L-2000 has a Trib JB2 neck on it since I only like narrow G&L necks.

sold it and got an L2000 in the same natural/maple config as I just don't use 5 strings

Sold the JB2 i posted earlier in this thread. However, I picked up another and an early MIK SB2. The SB2 is my goto bass and is probably my favorite of all the basses I've ever had.

Yup, those MIK SB2s are sweet. I own a cherryburst. Maple board. Sweet!

I love, love LOVE this bass! It's the nicest Jazz I have at the moment, BUT......

I'm NOT a rosewood board fan. I always think that natural bodies need to have a maple board. Why do manufacturers keep doing this to me? Sterling, G&L, even FENDER. In almost every case, I am taking steps to remedy this. So....

I just bought THIS......(JB-2 Tribby, 'burst)

...and I'm going to swap the necks out. Then I will sell the 'burst JB-2 with a rosewood board, which to ME, should improve the looks of THAT bass as well!

I have swapped necks with my SBMM Ray4 (walnut body) to get a maple board, and am replacing the rosewood board on an FSR Fender MIM Jazz with a 70s- styled bound and blocked maple board neck.

Can I get a witness? Am I the only one who thinks like this?

Different strokes for different folks, but I think maple works just fine with natural bodies.

As do I......(you may have misunderstood my message).....

What I DON'T care for is rosewood boards with a "natural" body. I LOVE Maple bodies! I love ASH natural bodies! I just PREFER maple boards to go with them.
