Gallien-Krueger MB2: Any more info?

Early leaks are fine say 6 months. But the Fusion was announced over 1.5 years ago. IMO that's more than a little long for a leak. Once again, IMO, if a company announces (and to me the 550 was an announcement, not a leak) a product it should be out no later than maybe 6 months after it's announcement. With the Fusion is seemed like once they announced it then GK started the actual design and engineering. It has been too long and now I think that some of GK's credibility has suffered as a result of the long period of time between announcement and release. I am glad GK wants to get the Fusion right before releasing it but at this point I am not sure if there is a straight answer as to when the 550 will actually be released. Frustrating. :rollno:

Talked to my local GC contact about the MB-2 and he said once it shows on the GC site they should have some. It doesn't even show in the GC computer yet so he said keep checking the site, then once I see it available there to call him.

Hopefully that is a good date. About 3 or 4 weeks ago there was a thread where everyone was excited because you could order a 550 from MF. Trouble was they were instantly sent to back order. Even over on the GK forum none of the GK reps seem to want to commit to a firm date. About a month or so ago GK was saying they were waiting for components/parts.

When I played this amp at NAMM this past January, we
a/b'd it with the 1001rb head through the same speakers.
It seemed to lack a little of that GK "girth" I'm used to. This
seems to be the case with many of the tiny amps out at the
moment. For the most part, it still had the GK sound.
Perhaps GK is spending a little more time on R&D before they
put it out on the market.

i like. definately looks like GK is going up against markbass with this guy. personally i don't really need it, but i have a feeling i may end up owning it anyway someday. GK happens...

it looks like it has 2 channels? from the footswitch input (back panel) and Gain B knob (front panel)... cool.

regretfully, it looks like it isn't a bi-amp "horn management" head (no tweeter knob). maybe adding that extra power-amp takes up space/weight?

improvements that could be made:
bi-amp to use with GK 4 conductor speakon "horn management" cabs,

speak-ons double as 1/4 outputs too (some brands have this type now) this helps when using non speak-on backlines,

votage sensing (like the eden 'traveler' heads that can work both in US, UK. It changes voltage automatically. this would be a great for people who do fly-dates both US and UK, etc.)

No word yet on the exact date when it will be released, but I have a feeling you won't be hearing a "breaking news announcement" of the release date on the GK forums. If anything, you'll probably be hearing a release date first mentioned somewhere else on the internet. Even for the Fusion 550, GK's "Tech" has been quite weary of any release date talk on the forums (and he has good reason to be). Now, this is all assumption of course, but I have a feeling "Tech" doesn't want to mention any release date because he knows there might be changes implemented that could push the release date back. When new members come by and ask, "When will the Fusion 550 ever be released?," "Tech" posts a link which mentions the supposed release date instead of giving out a promised release date from his own lips (or fingers).

All nice features but not necessary. Plus, if you're mantra for this line of amp is "small", you gotta cut corners somewhere. The 2 channels appear to be for a "main" output, then a "boost" output, per the video above.

well, i could live if it just opperated in full range and not bi-amp, but it just having speak-on only outputs and not 1/4" outs really limits your cabinet choice if you are just carrying this head to a backline show where you don't always know what you are going to get.

i would assume a product like this would appeal to those who need a small/lightweight head for traveling/fly dates, so therefore, the ability to mate with any cabinet type and at different voltages(and not just US) would really help.
