Gallien-Krueger MB800

Yeah, very. You and me got the first two bwah-ha-ha-ha!

I've never plugged into a head and decided so quickly about in my life. Just walked out of Bass San Diego with one.

I'm a Markbass fan, (the F1/F500) and I think I finally found another class D head that I like even more. (Ken, have you tried this head yet?)

I also auditioned the Epifani Piccalo which was *NICE* but not as flexible (for me) in it's voicing.

This head power wise is a hammer. A large one.

I'm sure I'll post more comments down the road but I wanted to chime in.

I wondered who'd get the other one. It's moved to the top of my list. That thing is tight and loud. It ruled through my AE210 last night, but it dominates with my AE410, which I've been playing tonight. It's going to be my go-to amp for a while.

I've been eyeing this head for awhile now. I really dig my STM-900, w/TB153, 4ohm cab & P5 bass. My cabs not a fearful but sorta close. I use this rig for my blues gigs but I'm looking for a modern tone for those "new country" gigs I get couple times a month now.

I usually use a Markbass F1 or LMII w/UL410 or two TC-RS210's w/a modern 5 stringer for those gigs. I think the GK head might work for that, I think. I like the more watts offered by th GK head for my UL410, 8 ohm.

But now might the price of current units be going up if USA production begins soon? AND I see a few of these heads on Ebay for sale daily. Are you guys just preferring to buy from a certain store that you're willing to wait for them to restock some units? Thanks y'all.

I would avoid going thru ebay for these, email skaught at mf he will treat you right, my mb8 has been bullet proof so far and i have been using it for 3 to 4 gigs a week since xmas

I think with an 8 ohm Epi UL410 you'd have the power you need but the tone is more modern right out of the box than say, F1. I just got lucky my local bass store had one in stock. Sweetwater has them right now for a good price. This head has tons of grunt, which was the primary reason I needed something with more oomph than my F1. It's bright though, be advised. Fortunately the treble center point is higher than the RB series Mark II so it's easier to tame. Good luck.

Agreed, the AE410/MB800 combination is pretty powerful.

I'm having 2nd thoughts though about suggesting this head with an Epifani UL410 though, might be too scooped.

I think the Piccalo 600 would just sound great with that voicing.

I'm getting GAS, although my band isn't ready to gig yet. All I have right now is my MB150 combo. For playing mostly small NYC club gigs, I've been thinking about the MB500. Could the MB800 really show its colors in small rooms and relatively small cabs?

Thanks.

Yes it absolutely can. I'm living proof.

Agreed. The tone is right there from jump street, no need to crank it to open it up. Great sounding head, smoother and bigger than 1001RBII, nicely extended high end, not really any ice pick, more glassy. The bottom is tight but thick. I think I'm in love with an appliance, lord help me.

With out a doubt, my band plays 70 ppl bars using my mb8 with a neo 2x12, add another cab and play very large rooms, i cant wait till the snow melts and i can giver a go outdoors. At lower volumes the dynamics and punch are still awesome. I have recently sold my ashdown practice amp and just use the mb8, we can rehearse and still have a conversation, trust me get the mb8!

Anyone happen to find any reasonably priced bags that the MB800 fits into nicely? I know the GK website has one, just sorting out the options first.

I went to office depot and got a laptop backpack, fits the head, pedals, cables, and powerconditioner, with room left for a pbj sammie, i LOVE walkin in with that on my back, bass in on hand, cab in the other, i get the stinkeye from my drummer everytime:p

Yeah, and then breaking out the sandwich as a snack before you play is just the icing on the cake. :D

I don't know from MarkII heads, but,
the B Channel has input gain and a level control.
so
you can set "flavor" at input gain, set B Channel level with the B Channel Level (!);
and then the output of the whole amp (Channels A and B at the same time) with the master volume.

Set A clean, B for flavor, or, a solo level, or, both, and then turn both A and B up and down without messing with flavors via the global master.
