Gallien-Krueger MB800

BTW, I am not sure if you guys have heard yet, but beginning in February, production on all GK models is moving back to the Stockton, CA facility. The last day of production in China was 12/31.

Interesting! If they can keep the prices anywhere close to the same, that's going to be a very impressive move!

Even if gk has to bump theyre prices 10 to 15 % it would be more than worth it,I am so impressed with my mb8 2/ 2x12 gk has got it goin on!

This is the first I hear of this. Doesn't seem like a small thing. Any insight into what prompted this? Sorry don't mean to de-rail this thread, and I'm happy to start one specific to this. But as a long time GK user, I'm curious....

That's cool. I stopped by the GK booth a few times to play the mb fusion heads and mb cabs. Sounded great even in the white noise of namm.

I spoke to Bob about this at length, and the short of it is that the major cost savings associated with Chinese labor some years back are not as significant as they once were. Plus, Bob is very much a hands on guy when it comes to quality control, and it's just easier to do that when he is not spending nearly half of his time in China.

The speaker drivers themselves will continue to be made in China. The pricing, taxes and quotas on exporting neodymium as a raw material make it a huge deal if he were to move production of the drivers themselves back over to the USA.

So hopefully he can keep the cost of GK products somewhat similar to what they are now. Fingers crossed!!!

I just got to say once again how much I love this amp , it is just unreal!!! the more i get a chance to play with it the more i absolutely love it. I have had no problem with the DI at all just super clean to the board . and it is also dead quiet . I have also been favoring channel B most the time .I have the gain set at about 1 o clock and the master at about 9 o clock and that has been plenty loud with just enough grit to get my point across if you know what i mean.

First gig with it tonight (and the bass and the cab), sounded so great in practice last night.

Yep to the above. I have been gigging mine for a few weeks now and the DI has been flawless. It's still unbelievable to me how much headroom this beast has. I can easily carry most any room I come in contact with.

Tomorrow night is going to be interesting. We're splitting a gig with a band and I get to find out how she does at 8 ohms through a 210 rather than 4 ohms through my 215.

Can't wait to play this thing again, every time I plug in I grin.

Bass San Diego is going to carry GK now, and I've got an MB800 reserved as soon as they get them. They're kind of scarce at the moment.

Good move for them! IME/IMHO, GK is kicking all kinds of @$$, and I find them hard to touch in their price range, and very competitive even compared to higher priced competition.

Yeah, very. You and me got the first two bwah-ha-ha-ha!

I've never plugged into a head and decided so quickly about it in my life. Just walked out of Bass San Diego with one.

I'm a Markbass fan, (the F1/F500) and I think I finally found another class D head that I like even more. (Ken, have you tried this head yet?)

I also auditioned the Epifani Piccalo which was *NICE* but not as flexible (for me) in it's voicing.

This head power wise is a hammer. A large one.

I'm sure I'll post more comments down the road but I wanted to chime in.

I've had one now for about 2 weeks. I've only played it through a MusicMan HD-210 Audiophile cab, mostly at low volumes at home and just once at a band rehearsal. Not in love with it yet, but I think it may just be the cab, which I find to be a bit boomy. I plan on using it with my Ampeg 810 this weekend so we'll see how that goes.

The speaker cabinet will make all the difference in the world. So far this head through a Berg AE410 is dangerous.

mb8 into an ampeg 8x10 will knock down walls, if you canafford it get a gk neo 2x12 it is the shizzel! between that and your ampeg you can cover anything from small bars to auditoriums and outdoor venues NO PROBLEM!

It's a powerhouse, eh?

I got a chance to try it with Fearful 12/6/1+12sub last night.
Man, does that ever work out well.

I've been eyeing this head for awhile now. I really dig my STM-900, w/TB153, 4ohm cab & P5 bass. My cabs not a fearful but sorta close. I use this rig for my blues gigs but I'm looking for a modern tone for those "new country" gigs I get couple times a month now.

I usually use a Markbass F1 or LMII w/UL410 or two TC-RS210's w/a modern 5 stringer for those gigs. I think the GK head might work for that, I think. I like the more watts offered by th GK head for my UL410, 8 ohm.

But now might the price of current units be going up if USA production begins soon? AND I see a few of these heads on Ebay for sale daily. Are you guys just preferring to buy from a certain store that you're willing to wait for them to restock some units? Thanks y'all.
