Gallien-Krueger MB800

I don't know from MarkII heads, but,
the B Channel has input gain and a level control.
so
you can set "flavor" at input gain, set B Channel level with the B Channel Level (!);
and then the output of the whole amp (Channels A and B at the same time) with the master volume.

Set A clean, B for flavor, or, a solo level, or, both, and then turn both A and B up and down without messing with flavors via the global master.

Hi -
That makes sense, but is it a more convenient scheme than the one on the MBFusion that has a gain + master for each channel? Also, is the MB800 the same as the MB500? Thanks!

The speaker cabinet will make all the difference in the world. So far this head through a Berg AE410 is dangerous.

mb8 into an ampeg 8x10 will knock down walls, if you canafford it get a gk neo 2x12 it is the shizzel! between that and your ampeg you can cover anything from small bars to auditoriums and outdoor venues NO PROBLEM!

I had the chance to play the MB800 through my Ampeg 810 on Saturday and didn't love it. It has plenty of power, but I didn't find the tone I wanted. To be fair though, I didn't spend a bunch of time fiddling with it - only a few seconds here and there between songs.

I bought it just for use with a small cab for band practice though and it works great for that. I'll look into the gk neo 212 for that application as well.

What didnt you like about it? I highly recommend the mb8 neo 2x12 combo but as always what works for me may not work for you

I just didn't find the tone I wanted. I normally use a RIC 4003 -> SansAmp RPM -> SansAmp RBI -> dbx160A -> Carvin DCM3000L -> Ampeg HSVT-810 and love the tone. And I was able to dial it in very quickly. Not so with the MB800. I'll keep trying it, but it will likely be my practice/backup head, which is what I bought it for.

Did you go straight in or didyou use your sans amp, i use an mxr m80 in front of mine, but i do like my tone on the growlier side, on a side note i see you use a carvin and i got a chance to try a carvin bx500 the other day and was very impressed

I plugged in directly to the MB800, no SansAmp (RIC 4003 -> MB800 -> Ampeg HSVT-810). I think the tone was ok, but definitely not what I wanted nor as good as the rack setup to my ears.

Right on, with gk, there seems to be not a lot of middle ground, you either like it or you don't, for me i love it and i guess thats why i question the reasons why other people don't, different strokes for different folks, its what makes the world go round, or at least keeps so many amp manufacturers biznis! peace:bassist:

So I ordered my MB800 from MF today. I can't REALLY afford it, but I got the 13% off coupon going so I figured I couldn't hold out any longer. For smaller gigs it'll push one of my GB NEOX-212Ts, and for the big times it'll push my two Mesa PH 410s. I'm pretty stoked. I am a recent GK convert and this is my first stand alone GK head. Fingers crossed!

Got mine today after parting with my 1001RB-II some days ago, and so far I'm veeery impressed!. It sounds quite similar to the 1001 but with more bottom end when the dials are set the same way (the ones they share in common, anyway). Sure, the 1001 can be tweaked more, but not enough to make me want to go back. And the convenience of it's size. My Schroeder 1212R pairs just as well (if not better) with this thing. Loud, powerful and clear.

But . . .

I plugged it to the same outlet as my 1001RB and it is noisier. Not sure if it's more sensitive to ground problems . . .

I had the same problem, I play in a lot of rooms that are from the colo mining era circa 1881 with very suspect wiring, so i bought the carvin power conditioner and its dead silent now. And i think the class d gear is more sensitive to power surges as well causing some of the cutting out issues. I highly recomend the carvin, great features and delivered for less than $200.
