Taxis. Yeah, GTA4 was a lot of drive here, do this, drive there, do that, run from the cops, return. I use taxis to avoid all that damned driving.
Ive been mostly playing the expansion packs though, as the missions are more entertaining, especially The Ballad of Gay Tony (which has way cool weaponry).
GTA5 looks awesome, and it seems the missions are more centered around various bank heists.

I had never realized just how much I enjoyed the first person driving perspective till I did all that damn driving. :D

Man, I was playing the crud out of that game for awhile. Then I got burnt out, and stopped playing for a few months. A few times I've tried to go back and finish it, but I turn it on and have no idea where I was, and give up, and I really don't want to start over all over again since I do know I got pretty far. I just don't have the attention span I had as a kid anymore...

That brings back memories! One of my favorite games when I was growing up! Those SNES RPGs were incredible. Still play them from time to time, and I am convinced that though nostalgia is a big part of the fun, they would still shine if you'd give them today to someone who has never played them.

The whole 16-bit era made some gems anyway. Super Metroid, Earthbound, Zelda...

+1 I would say that the snes was the golden age of gaming.

It's probably more fair to say "SNES was MY golden age of gaming, when I was the exact right age to enjoy video games at their fullest".

At least that's how I would interpret it from my own experience. Because the games now are completely awesome. I just don't play them like I did when I was 14. And when I go back to an old console and play a game from 1990, I'm always amazed at how crappy it is in relation to today's games. Yes, even my very favorite games.

I've heard complaints about N64's display of 3d on flat screens ("it just doesn't look right!"), but never about SNES.

You may be right, but I would say that that the greatest games on snes are better (aside from graphics) than the greatest games of today.

Those games were just a part of a larger part of life, where going it, playing sports,etc were just as important. Today's games are too time consuming (not always a bad thing).

IMO, YMMV, etc..

I'm not sure I agree with you. Maybe it's overly cynical of me, but I get the feeling that todays gaminglandscape is a lot more like Hollywood, with those AAA games at least. The budgets are so vast that they can't afford a failure, and therefore they experiment less to try to have broad appeal, and we end up with twenty similar soulless games, all created by committee rather than a labour of love made by a small team which a lot of games in the 16 bit era clearly were.

Sure, today there is a booming indie scene (which is just the best), but "mainstream gaming" is a lot less magical to me than it was in those days.
