Truth of the matter nobody really know exactly how much fossel fuels are left in the world and how long they will last. It is all based on perdictions and trends. The USGS redid Hubberts study in the 1990's, IIRC, and pushed the peak oil curve back several decades from where it was orginally. With improvement in technology wore oil is being found and oil that was once unproducable is now producable. Consumption still needs to put in check and alternatives need to be developed to extend the amount of time the we will have oil to use. IMO it will run out one day. Not today like the doom and gloom crowd and not never, but some unknown point in the middle.

Hearing with the oil guys is silly. Oil is a world commidity and the price is set on a global level. It is just politicians posturing for votes. If they would focus on strengthing the dollar the price of oil would drop for us here in the US.

More like somebody(s) has an agenda rather than a conspiracy theory...power and greed being at the core. I suppose conspiracies can arise out of a well planned agenda being placed into action. There's so much that goes on behind closed doors that you and I will never know about. I outlined a theory in another thread why I thought the oil prices were so high. I can't proove it, but I used the follow the money method.

We just went into Wal-Mart last nite to get a couple of 5-gallon gas cans...in the fifteen minutes we were in the store, the price of their gas went up from $3.59 to $3.69. It was $3.73 this morning, when I drove by. They are telling us to expect $4.20-$4.25 by Monday (the "Memorial Day Bendover"...) :eek:

Wife and I filled up five 5-gal. gas cans, and a 3-gal., and another 1-gal. Spent $100...put a few gallons in the Ranger as well.

For at least a couple months, I have been predicting $4.80/gal this year. Might hit it, might go over. If there is a thunderstorm over the Gulf, expect prices to rise slightly. If there is a hurricane, expect $6-8/gal.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

But you seem willing to believe some fairly anonymous sources with no credentials (and no accountability) on the Internet, because they're saying something you want to believe. High gas prices are frustrating, but I just don't buy such a massive conspiracy. especially given my own background...

I worked at a pretty sizable publication, and I have friends who work at really big ones now. Despite what you may want to believe, advertisers don't have control over what the editorial staff at a newspaper or magazine does. Perhaps there is some indirect influence from time to time, passed up from the ad sales team to the publisher (who's on the business side) to the editor and down to his staff. But in my experience, it is quite rare and not very significant. It's a drop of water compared to the ocean's worth of continuous pressure you'd need to squash a huge potential story like this at every legit newspaper and magazine in America. Not a chance.

There's this microwave-ish machine that is under testing, that can re-convert used tires and the like into plastic, petrol and natural gas.

Better put some fuel stabilizer in those cans. Gas doesn't sit well.

Who said I believed the story? I didn't. I just asked if there was any truth to it, which nobody here has yet to prove, dis-prove or know the answer. I will say I do think something's going on and there's a lot more to the high oil prices than this supply and demand BS.
