Ever felt a quick charge battery pack after a "quick" 1 hour charge? Imagine that heat x1000 batteries then cut the time by 20x. That is a fundamental problem to overcome with that. The faster you pass electricity from one point to another, the more heat you create. Passing enough electricity to power a car for any significant amount of time within 5 minutes would blow the carz all to smithereenz. :D

Again, consider the source and turn on your crap detector. A google search doesn't bring up pages from The Washtington Post, CNN, The New York Times, even any oil company sites. Just a bunch of plainly kooky "alternative" sources. A "News" search in Google brings up nothing. Bull-s is "all over the net".

Find your own legitimate news source. I never once claimed this as fact. I simply said that I had heard it and I linked a story to it. I googled "Gull Island" and found a lot of stories about it. I read about it and I mentioned it on here. I never picked a side. However, I did say (and still say) that it would not surprise me to learn that we're being screwed needlessly.

That just sounds a bit far fetched. Oil fields have a max producing life of about 20 years. A few go longer, but most are much less. Unless the drilled several holes and did testing on them there is no way to determine to real potential of the field by just looking at the rock formation. Many large oil bearing rock formations end up being dry holes.

Of course you're not going to see the story from any "legitimate" news source. The oil companies spend big bucks on advertising with these sources. They let something like that out and there goes a big source of their income.

If you don't beleive the Gull Island story then what about Brazil? Huge pockets of oil found that they say are just the tip of the iceberg, and yes you can find it on "legitimate" sources.

Oil is found by looking for certian rock formation that are known to contain oil. Oil and gas does not show up on the seismic data. When a formation is found a test well is drilled. If oil is really there is comes up in a controlled way, no gushers anymore. If not the non producing well is call a dry hole. It happens more than people think. Geologist have gotten better at reading the data and the technology is better so it happens less.

Invalid Link Removed And the quality of the oil won't be known until it starts producing. It may be heavy oil that is expensive and difficult to refine.

I need to try to find where I saw it, but I had heard that there was thought to be a huge reserve of oil in Antarctica, I think it was near the Ross Ice Shelf, but I'm not certain. That speculation was based on the findings of certain core samples they had drilled. Antarctica was at one time quite fertile and temperate. Then Global Cooling hit, and BAM!

Also, does anyone find it odd that the deeper you go, the more there seems to be? Seems like perhaps the earth itself is making oil as a byproduct of it's internal heat. 32,000 feet down? That's several miles. Something tells me that it's not just dead dinosaurs and plants, but perhaps the earth actually makes it's own oil.

I'm hardly a conspiracy theorist, but at nearly $4.00/gal and climbing my "crap detector" is working overtime. Somebody ain't telling the truth and I don't trust the government or the media when I'm looking for truth. These hearings they're doing with these oil company exec's are a joke. They're all in bed together. I personally think there's enough oil on the planet to out last my grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren, but who am I to convince people?
