GASing for a P-Bass

I love my 2013 mim 50's P-bass lacquer- as of very recently Ensenada's quality has been great.

I dont care it fender or squier pbass, i found the squier cv 60p not only comfort playing, it solid build & great value of money.

upgrade with fender 63 pup , strung a set of labella 760fl flatwond , plug into a nice retro look + sound great cheap rumble 200 combo, i feel satisfied enough to enjoy it.

If money not a problem, i will bring the fender roadworn pbass go home.

I have an MIM Precision that I love. It's my number one. However, I had to upgrade it to bring it to "Keeper" status. $500 will get you the bass but then you will need to allocate more funds to upgrade the pickups and, most likely, the bridge. So, account for an extra $250-300 to bring it up close to an MIA. By then, it's not a huge bargain anymore. If I had to do it again, I would probably wait a month or two, put more money aside and get a Fender MIA or a G&L.

I suppose I'll just hit up GC {UGH! I hate going in there } and play some more. I've been kind of "avoiding" them. I did play a '67 (ish) one that was GREAT! Lol1 but at a $6700 price tag...don't think I'll be getting it anytime soon. Haha

I don't like my local GC either. It's the only music store in my vicinity (that I know of). They take forever to trade in an instrument or buy one. The bass room is small so there aren't many basses to try. The last time I went there, there was only ONE MIA P Bass. No MIMs to try out. No MIA Jazzes. There was only one Stingray and it was a 5-string. Pretty small selection of basses. The employees are very nice though.

I see what you did there. (Referencing your location.)

What the hell man you've been here on TB for 4 years and don't have a Precision yet. Oh the horror, oh the shame of it all! The Squier Vintage vibe basses are fine, save some money, try one you can always move up to a MIA or whatever. A cheaper one will tell you all you need to know as to whether you're going to bond or not. Buy online you can always send it back.

Yeah, yeah. Been taking my time I guess. Lol!
I have the Jazz...never thought a P would be something I needed. I have an EBMM and that's my game. Just trying to expand the tonal possibilities.
The only problem I have with a Squier (or a MIM) is I've been through the "get what I can now and upgrade later". Seems to always be a waste of money...figure I'll just try and get an American right off. No multiple purchases. I will try the MIM's though. I have never given them a fair shot.

I would love one of those myself, but I don't think they are being produced anymore. Crazy about the Antigua finish though!

I played one, they are super nice. They had one on the wall at my local guitar shop but it's gone now.

You can end up saving some money by upgrading, aside from that you also get exactly what you want. You can pick the exact tuners, bridge, pickups, etc. Figure you can put 150 dollars in a MIM and have something pretty close to a MIA. There will be some differences, but it closes the gap.

If you can buy a MIA for 500+150 then it's definitely worth getting the MIA though.

Get you a Fiesta Red Classic Vibe Squier just as good as any MIM..IMHO...and with your 500.00 budget throw some flats on it and call it good or change out the pups but doesn't really need pup upgrade...Great basses, just read all the love on here about them...

Fiesta Red - Made of a Squier Standard P-bass body and a Squier Standard Jazz neck. It has a MIM pickup and upgraded harness in it. The neck is pretty nice, it has a nice thick piece of rosewood on it and the frets are good.

The guy I bought it from put a Fender logo on it. I don't really care either way, at least he was honest about what it actually is.

All I did to it is replace the bridge and neck plate. Then I threw flats and the ashtray mute on it. I have 220 bucks total in this bass. It's pretty nice really for that price, sounds great.

My other real Fender P bass is at the shop at the moment. I chose to keep rounds on that one.
