Geddy's new bass???

I'm a diehard Geddy fan and I've been to 40 Rush concerts. The first one was the Grace Under Pressure tour at MSG in 1984. This will be the first tour I will miss because I'm now on the other side of the world and can't afford the trip

Anyway, I watched a few videos that were posted from openning night. I looks like Geddy's got a new bass! At first glance it looks like his usual signature bass because it's a black Fender Jazz a BassAss II bridge but I think this one has a pearloid pickguard and the neck has white binding and pearl blocks. It's hard to tell from the video quality but I think that's what it is. Anyone else notice?

It may be his main bass with a new neck, but it definatley has pearloid inlays. His old bass tech, Russ (who posts on TB) stated that for the Snakes and Arrows tour he replaced the neck with one of the Fender Geddy signature necks, that was modifed to his standards, but I was able to see the sig on the back of the headstock in the jumbotron when I was at there.

His tone sounds amazing. I can just imagine how good it must sound being there...July 24th!, Cant Wait. I guess the Orange Amps must be behind the stage facia props. Too bad, was hoping to see them in their true form.

I'm a huge Rush fan, and I think the Geddy model is over priced, 12 years ago it was like $650 in Musicians Friend, now its over $1000. its really the same bass. and I don't like the pickups. plus the necks warp due to them being so thin. Its not really like the 1971... 72.. 73... early 74??? its modeled after. the necks on those were like baseball bats, and the pickups were old school. OHH yeah, I saw rush last friday on Hollywood Blvd getting there new star on the sidewalk! ohh it twas grand.

The unique neck on the Geddy Lee is the "signature" part of the instrument, as Geddy's 72 was a pawnshop model where the previous owner had done a significant amount of shaving to make the neck nice and smooth.

I saw Rush last night and he played 3 jazz basses. Black with white blocks and binding and pearloid guard (main bass), black with black blocks and binding and a black guard (my favorite and played on maybe 3 songs), and the red jazz with black blocks and binding (1 song only). I also have to comment on how beefy his tone was. Playing through an amp and cab again really does wonders for his tone. Camera Eye was the highlight of the show for me.

That's pretty much all Fender basses/guitars.

I was kind of shocked when I went shopping for a new Tele a few years ago and also last year shopping for a bass that the Squiers cost what the MiMs used to cost, the MiM now costs what the MiA used to cost and the MiA is over 1000k! More than inflation though.

While the MiAs are definitely very nice instruments and I'd gladly pay a premium for anything made in the U.S., no reason while their other models should cost so much when you compare to other brands with similar specs.

Can't say that about many rockers.

Rush is too cool in part due to their interpersonal loyalties. Effing good stuff there. Life lesson stuff.

12 years ago bread, gas and house rent was just about that much cheaper too i think!

It's just the good n' old 72 Jazz with a new neck featuring white blocks and binding and a sticker on the also new pearloid pickguard. This symbol can be found on the cover of the new Rush single (Caravan/BU2B).
