Geddy's new bass???

Shoot me, but I just love the old Fender Jazz basses with the 7.5" neck radius.

Like any for-profit company, Fender will charge what the market can bear. People do pay more for Fenders and overlook other good basses, but that's not a reason to hate Fender for having created the archetypical bass guitar.

Here's a great picture of the new pickguard.

Just a guess but now that I see this closeup, I'm guessing that this isn't a new bass, it's his old reliable with yet another new neck and a new pickguard. We recall that his original neck was replaced just before the Snakes and Arrows album and tour with a neck straight off of one of his signature models with upgraded tuners. Now it looks like he's done that again but he's going with white blocks and white binding.

If his sig bass had this look back in 2003, I would've gotten it and it would've only cost $699

Nothing special, it's just a symbol for the tour.

I wonder if thats a MM bass neck. Thats the neck I want on my Geddy. The MM bass has the nicest feeling neck I've put my hands on.

OK, at the risk of being flamed - why is paying $1K for a great jazz bass so crazy and a sign of the end of the world, yet people do not hesitate to pay 3x that amount on "boutique" P and J bass copies?

Are they really 3x better?

For the record, I have a Geddy (but purchased before latest price hike). I'd probably still pay $1K for it - the fit and finish are great. I did change out the tuning keys, however.

Nope. Ged's Wal tone was his best tone ever. Much better than what he has now.

Just did a quick search on Google, and found out that that's the alchemy symbol for Amalgamation.

"there are outdoor seats at SPAC too(as well as indoor),its an open air ampitheatre so if you have "lawn seats" be prepared for any foul weather that may happen...BTW the drive down I-87 is very scenic road that goes thru the Adirondack mountains,so enjoy the ride and the show"


Thanks Rekes. I kind of lucked out with the tickets. After I found out they group wasn't coming to MTL I started checking ticketmaster for the SPAC show. A month after the tickets originally went on sale they had a ticket release and I ended up with fourteenth row so I am pretty stoked. Looking forward to the drive down I 87 and seeing the Adirondacks. U.S. roadways are smooth as glass compared to the crappy highways we have to drive on....

That's what our New York State taxes pay for man!

Yeah I just saw them live tonight and saw the Custom Shop logo on the back of that new neck. Looks like its just the same old black Jazz bass with a new pickguard and CS neck. He played that one virtually the entire night too save for a few songs when he briefly swapped out an all black Jazz and the red one.
