I love (from afar) and respect Gene. As a songwriter, singer, bass player, co-inventor of a legend and legacy that literally everyone in the world has heard of, and of course, as a businessman.
He's got his share of hiccups, but seriously - we all do. His aren't as bad as those of many other people's.
And I've always loved his gibson bass tone and his bass playing/bass lines. He's one of the reasons why I play bass, and one of the influences on my playing for many years, even though I'm a classical violinist with two degrees in music... Gene and his simple attitude to playing and singing is CRITICAL to an entire genre, or two, of popular music through the past 5 decades.
So yea, I didn't call him amazing, but I did call him awesome.

Not particularly a fan, but it's hard not admire a man who made such a career after emigrating to the US alone with his mother, and I have no doubt at all despite his well-publicized foibles, his holocaust survivor mother never had to want for a thing and he kissed the ground she walked on. He's quick to point out he's a 'mama's boy' proudly. Hard to find fault with that.

Very moving video and I can actually remember watching the Blue Angels when the TV stations shut down at night when I was young. I don't remember this particular one though but every station did this back then.
I'm sorry, but this is nothing if not a sterling example of how impossible it is for a man to accomplish something when a woman is hectoring him

Your restraint is most admirable.
Even though there's very little bottom in this mix I like it and I like Criss's drumming, always have. This tune is almost garage rocky and I think a lot of it is Criss's drumming.
I know Gene gets quite a bit of flack due to his comments off stage, but he calls it like he sees it. I respect that even if I don't agree with him on many things.
I think on stage and in the songs he holds it down. He's played and entertained millions. Like it or not, kiss has been a major influence. He isn't a technical virtuoso, but he's also not chop liver. His bass lines venture across the strings and compliment the songs well. Hes playing more than roots and fifths. Some of those classic kiss bass lines are really solid and fun to play.
I like kiss. I think Ace is awesome. I liked their old jams. I've been entertained many times through the years at kiss shows. I've never once been out in the crowd thinking Gene simmons isn't making it happen.
Gene off stage, I dont know him. the media trys to portray him as a scab of society. I dont think he is that. ive read stories about gene trying to steer rockers that were heading down the path of drugs and alcohol to a path of sobriety and living life. He seems like he was genuinely concerned for these people's well beigns the way the stories were told.
Just my two cents. Love him or hate him, you probably know who he is atleast.

Yeah, I meant to say of your Midnight Special clip on page one that I like Peter's drumming, and his singing tone, too.
Unfortunate that he didn't hold it together better, as despite his obvious resentments toward the firm, he really benefitted from its structure.
I don't know that much about it except that I've read some members of the band seem to think Criss wasn't that good of a drummer. He had a great voice.
