A LoBue replica would be GREAT!! I liked the tone of his Spector, but I didn't like the look of it, it looked odd.

A LoBue replica would be GREAT!! I liked the tone of his Spector, but I didn't like the look of it, it looked odd.
That woould be pretty slick. Imagine owning a quality version of his bass where the wood is from the US; not the Dagobah System.
Unfortunately for Gene and Paul, cheap imports = higher profit margin.
On a separate note, I thought Paul's Iceman and Gibson Flying V's were nice pieces, but it seems his guitars have gotten progressively uglier.
I must say that as a kid I thought all of Kiss' gear was pretty cool to look at. Ace got me into LEs Pauls, I never would have known what an Iceman even was and I always thought the Axe bass was quintessential Kiss. But I have a hard time paying sick money for cheap knockoffs. If Gene is going on stage with the Cort copy and not his custom made one, I might believe its worth a couple grand to someone. How much do you think it would cost to have someone like Moser build one from scratch for you?
You could build it yourself if you have ok woodworking skills.
Start w/a Carvin Neck thru. That gets you your ebony fretboard, and near perfect fretwork.
TIP:
On the Kramer AX I had, the "blades" were attached with 2 dowels(about 1 inch dia. each & on each side) that were glued to the neck thru..then they had rubber ends that went inside the "blade" The black part in the middle basically covered the joint. You could make a really good copy for 5 or 6 hundred easy, I'd guess...that's guessing around 200 for the neck thru, and another 200 for the EMGs.. the rest is just tuners, bridge, and a paint job. Oh yeah, wood to make then "Blade"...I'd recommend Poplar, it's light weight and easy to paint and not too expensive.

Good answer, but I meant that in the more rhetorical sense. I bet 5gs would get me one from a good custom guitar maker if I were so inclined (I certainly am not). YOu are correct though, for about a 10th of the cashyou could probably make your own if you knew what you were doing.

I see your point. The biggest problem a builder would run into is Gene owning the rights to the name AX and ax shaped basses/guitars. So if somebody who makes a living building instruments were to build them and sell them Gene would likely do some damage to them. Homemade versions for your personal use aren't worth his time though.

As for his musical skills, I always saw him more as a showoff than a musician. Of course he is a good bass player, but his biggest role in Kiss is being a demon. He does come out as quite the ******* too, but that's his problem.

Genes #1 fan sights 2 pieces of wood in 2 different materials which im sure he is absolutely right. but gene takes time to dis set necks and bolt ons
truth is either gene has no idea whats going out there with his name on it as long as the money is good or he just lies to make a $1000 max bass sound like its worth $5000. either way i really feel this is exactly the same low class move thats been weening people of the KISS-machines teat for the last couple decades.its sad that the greed has overshadowed the talent. no wonder Ace was such a mess, id have to be trashed constantly too to deal with slimey dudes like this too
