He said himself it was all one peice of wood which made it "..louder than anything else". NOw obviously that is an absurd statment, but I am more inclined to believe you than him about the amount and type of woods, and that doesn't say much for his expertise. Doesn't matter to me, hating the man for praying on pathetic folks who will pay triple what anything is worth just because it has KISS on it somewhere seems like a waste of time. A victimless crime if you ask me, these people chose to be this delusional.

Then again, they will wise up someday and pull the same thing on some other "collector" so its good for everyone involved.

But he's not really selling the bass by itself. He's selling a "copy" of his world-famous instrument, with the opportunity to meet him and then he will hold it in his hands and sign. The he will give it back to the EXTREMELY delighted fan, who will remember the experience for the rest of his life. Later, after the Demon himself passes on to the next life, that collectable copy with the signature will in time be worth 3-4 times what Gene originally asked for it.

And it probably does have the woods that are mentioned. which isn't a false claim. It's not a finely crafted bass. It's a collectable people! Can we get past the issue of "This bass isn't worth that much and he's ripping people off!". The value of an object is determined by a mutual agreement between the buyer and the seller.

Get a grip people. The bottom line in commerce is a price the market will bear for any item. Some people will buy, but it does not mean it has to have gold, frankincense or myrrh in it for it to be in a certain price level to have a percieved value. Cheap photo prints with a scribbled signature also sell for a lot of money, and they are valuable to the people want to pay whatever excess over the actual price of a photographic print.

You can't really think Gene's autograph will make this thing worth 20 grand? He has been handing out autographs for 35 years, not exactly a rare collectible. He's had several "collectible " runs on instruments too.
I guess I should have hung on to his Kramer AX 6 string Guitar (which was autographed and held in his Demon paws) I picked that up for a much more reasonable 400 dollars. :smug:

I do still have the pickup.
Its a DiMarzio Super distortion, I think.

I'll let you have it for a $1000.:D

I wonder if he is going to mass produce this bass? After the rich fans have given him their money, maybe he will go for the small fish.

The bass is obvioulsy way overpriced, but people pay it, so where there's demand, Gene is there to supply it.

Gene is almost like a parody of himself from 35 years ago. It's kind of sad. I like classic KISS, but listening to Gene talk is like watching a car crash. I want to look away, but his BS makes it hard to.

I think Gene is a solid player, but his ego doesn't lend him any credibility among music listeners.

BP article 1996: "While Gene Simmons is no Victor Wooten, it can also be said that Victor Wooten is no Gene Simmons."

Seriously, IMO, if Gene wants to have a "real" signature bass, he should cut a deal to make exact replicas of his Charlie LoBue bass.

I always wanted to play one of those..
