Actually, Corts are fantastic instruments, at their propper price range. At Simmons $5000, thats stupid.
It hardly costs him a couple of grand to have Cort put in EMG's.
And even with EMG's, the wood matters, while EMG's have a signature tone, the woods will still have an affect on it, see the brighter sounding Spector NS2, since it uses a maple body, as an example, using mahoagny, it would sound different, yet still have the EMG tone.
Come back when you know what you're talking about.![]()
I used to be one of those kiss fanatics. But I've slowly been losing that with all the greed and marketing overshadowing the actual music. Taking something as iconic as the axe and selling it for 500 so everyone and their brother has one, that just ruins it, turns it into just another bass. We go from, man if I could only have an axe to yeah I saw a couple of those at guitar center. I'm going to do it gene style an when he dies and the value of kiss memorabilia skyrockets, I'm selling all my kiss recordsso im a little confused. Gene says the whole guitar is made of one piece of wood?!?!
Genes #1 fan sights 2 pieces of wood in 2 different materials which im sure he is absolutely right. but gene takes time to dis set necks and bolt ons
truth is either gene has no idea whats going out there with his name on it as long as the money is good or he just lies to make a $1000 max bass sound like its worth $5000. either way i really feel this is exactly the same low class move thats been weening people of the KISS-machines teat for the last couple decades.its sad that the greed has overshadowed the talent. no wonder Ace was such a mess, id have to be trashed constantly too to deal with slimey dudes like this too
5 whole pages have popped up while I've been reading this thread (albeit at a relaxed pace).
Surprised it's lasted this long, what with the slagging each other and mr vincent off.
IMO, it's a horrible looking bass and WAAAY too expensive.
And I don't like Kiss (though that's irrelevant in relation to how good/bad the bass is).
+1 on buying a wal over one of these.

Of course someone would buy a Wal over these....
but that isnt contributing to this thread...

Then you get it.
Gene's hero was PT Barnum, who said, "there is a sucker born every minute", or something to that effect.
His persona gets blurred with his business skills and his being a bass player.
I think his public personality is an act and he is probably a really nice, intelligent man who is trying to build as big a kingdom as possible to leave his children.
Not many will dispute his ability to make a buck.
His abilities on bass get slammed all the time here, but he really is a solid bass player. No he's not a Wooten, or Jaco, or Marcus Miller, nor does he try to be...but he can play some fairly busy rockin' lines, while singing and jumping around in platform boots.
When I was a kid he influenced me alot with KISS ALIVE, and I've kept an eye on the band ever since, BUT I've also grown up myself, and I realize KISS is a BRAND and a business..not an artform (at least not in the traditional sense...some consider business an art form). It's mearly entertainment, not a cause or a statement about anything other than, they want your money...IMHO, of course.
Very similar to when the circus comes to town. You can have fun, but they came for your money.![]()
I bet that once the 500 dollar ones come out there will be so many people buying them that they will almost become a cliche
Gene's band went farther than your (who ever you are) garage band will ever go. I'm tired of people bashing other people because they don't play like wooten or sheehan or whoever else. You bashers s&^k.

I don't have time to read all this right now and I see some of my points have been covered, but...
Not to take away from the hilarity of Gene selling a Cort for $5000 with a straight face, but anyone who says all Gene is is 1/8 or 1/4 root notes hasn't listened to much of anything he actually played on, especially the original make-up era stuff. He may be a douche but he is also a very creative and capable bassist whose McCartney era influence is obvious to anyone who listened to and learned his parts as a kid. Gene has GREAT melodic sense as a bass player when he wants to. On the songs where he pumps a root 1/8th note I defy anyone to write another part that doesn't immediately take away from the character of the song. Sometimes pumping root notes are what's called for. Some of the 80's stuff may have veered into typical generic parts, but a lot of that wasn't even him writing or playing the parts. Crappy Cort or not, Gene Simmons is a credit to his title of bassist.
yeah man , genes got some dang grooooooove ..... so when and where can we order the 699 bass ???
