Gene Simmons New Cort Axe Bass???

The neck is hard maple, the body is mahogany, obviously from overseas, and the fingerboard is Indian Rosewood.

Oh and by the way, if you think all Gene does is play open 1/4 notes then you definitely HAVE NOT listened to the majority of KISS's music, because the man definitely does not pound out 1/4th notes.:rolleyes:

Uh, did you read the part where Gene said it's made from "ONE PIECE" of the rare and elusive "wood from the Far East"?

Mahogany also grows in Mexico (I'll bet that's where Gene got his), and Central America. No 'seas' involved.

So, Gene Simmons and Cort can't charge what they like on their bass? What about Gibson and their $3000+ Grabber reissue with no ones autograph, single passive pickup and close but not close enough body and headstock shape. I know which one I would rather have, if I was so inclined. But in this day and age, who has a lazy 5G's to blow on a collectable. Me, I'm gonna wait til the $699 version is released. It will look just as good up on the wall. As for how it sounds... why do you think Gene only uses the bass on one song live??? and used a vintage Gibson Ripper to record the new album!!!

The original post didn't have the story straight - the photo posted was of the Cort retail model. The $5000 version with the signature & meet & greet, blah, blah, blah is for the same model that he uses on stage.

First off, who cares? If you don't want to buy one, no one is pointing a gun at you forcing you to do so. Obviously there are people out there who are willing to buy, or they wouldn't be available for sale. What business is it of yours?

Second, all of the hot air on here from people talking about how obnoxious Gene is...200+ posts says it all to me. He puts his name on a guitar & 200 bass nerds go into a frenzy. He's right & you're all wrong (& probably a little bit jealous too.)

I'll admit that I am a big KISS fan, but when I saw the price of the Axe Bass I almost fell out of my chair! Hell, I could buy a really wild Birdsong hand built bass guitar with really fancy woods (I already have a Birdsong Cortobass with a cherry body worth around $1600 US). You could buy a Fender Custom Shop relic P-Bass or Jazz Bass for that price.

Now everybody should be ok, there is an expensive version (that I would by as a KISS fan, if I could afford) and now there is a cheap one (that I will buy) . I also think that Gene is sometimes too inventive with merch but hey - did he force anybody to buy KISS stuff? I can always decide what to buy and what to leave in the shop. Blame the people who buy things.. and the stuff I've got I really love! :-)
Who is blaming Fender for taking 1000 Dollars for a bolt on neck-non-handbullt bass that cost them not a penny more do make than yamaha and Ibanez who offer basses like them for half the price because it takes machines to do all the work in Asia, the US or Europe!

Yeah, but 1,000 is worlds away less than 5,000. Also, there is way more resale value of a MIA Fender over some Axe bass. Does Fender overcharge? Maybe. However, 5,000 for a Gene Simmons axe bass made in Asia is insane. No thanks.

Again its the people that make the resale price. I don't buy a bass thinking of a resale price. As I said, I thing also that it is too expensive but when I look at the Alembic prices you can spend easily 10000 or more dollars for a bass that is not worth it! I mean they are well built, but not worth 10000 dollar. But this is accepted.

And please compare the money Fender makes out of 50 years selling their basses too expensive for at least 30 of that time compared to the money Gene Simmons will make with the selling of a few axes. Must we hate Fender now for beeing to expensive for at least 30 years now? I think Gene could learn from them :-)

I kind of hope the Cort $600 version is really bad. Like the Paul Stanley SIlvertones. That way I can bring it out for one song, beat up on it, burn it, get "blood" on it, shots spilled on it, etc... and if it gets dropped onstage or scratched it wont matter. lol :spit:

List on that bad boy was $3100, and they didn't barter much off that price because as one of the old SLM guys told me "Gene wants every penny he can get out of them". Yes, the head was just an SVT-350H rebadged, but there never was a B215. The Simmons SVT-LGS215 (which I own) was an SVT-215E which had a custom grill and loaded with heavyweight JBL's - and IMO justified the cost of the cab itself. I wouldn't want the head - but the cab kicks some serious aZZ!

Getting back to the bass itself - I've had a chance to play both the old Kramer Axe and the 90's/00's modern Axe, and I preferred the 34" scale, feel, and balance of the modern one. Not a fan of the EMG's though. I've read that they were made by Fernandes along with the Punishers, and they could have been. They really werent that bad.

If the Cort build is in line with other $500-$600 basses out there, I'm in. I've blown more than that on other pieces of gear that just sit in a closet and collect dust! lol

Not that this surprises me - but I just spoke to a Cort rep who said that the GS-AXE 2 (bolt on) and the $5K Axe (neck through) are both being made in Indonesia. So what does $4500 extra essentially get you? Neck through option, Gene's signature, EMG's, No Cort logo on the headstock, and a hardshell case. Think I'll go with the bolt on... :spit:

Of course they can..But it is robbery. We are not discussing overprized Gibsons here. Start a tread if you want.

i live in england nd im a big kiss fan. i was searchin for basses on a site nd i found the axe bass by cort for £375 including case nd i thought bargin. i wouldnt really wanna pay £4000 more to have it sind since i dont even live in america.:D

That's talk from somebody who doesn't know ANYTHING about Gene's basslines, they are anything BUT 1/4 notes. Listen to "Going blind" or "Detroit Rock city" or "Strutter" Gene is far more than just a root note player.

If I may ask, where did you get the idea from that Gene is a one trick pony bass line wise?

Explain it, I want to know.
