Genz Benz Neo Pak 3.5

Question for the GB guys

Can a NEO-Pak amp handle a 2.66 ohm load (an 8 and 4-ohm in parallel) as-is or does it need the upgrade?

I thought I heard it can handle sub-4-ohm loads if not driven to max volume. Even without the upgrade.

thanks

that's funny....I could swear I answered this the other day, but I don't see a post from me.

Anyway, no, it isn't safe. Keep in mind that 2.66 will be a nominal load. When you hit certain notes and hit them hard etc., it will go below 2.66.

The upgrade is free, all you pay is shipping to us. We pay shipping back. Turn around is 2 weeks.

+1 on topper's last 2 posts

I just ran my new Neo Pak earlier this evening and experienced the same rattle that TOPPER and DanoesqBass speaks of.

On certain notes it's clearly there and sounds mechanical as it is not coming through the speakers.

I am contacting the seller of this new head on Ebay (INDOORSTORM) to recify the situation in the a.m.. My concern is that they will not have another unit they can swap out and it will be a case of refund or warranty work...will have to see...:eyebrow:

It would be nice though if some of the kind and knowledgable GB folks would comment on this particular phemomena.

We've had multiple instances of this issue brought up here on Talkbass...

Besides this rattle: the head sounds great!!! Played my passive Fender Jazz and P's through my newly aquired Aguilar DB112 and it sounded to my ears, fantastic.:bassist:

As an aside, if it does goes to warranty work, I will need the 2 ohm conversion as well...;)

I'd like to hear from someone who's tried the Neo-Pak with Bill Fitzmaurice cabs such as the Omni 10/12/15, or the DR250.

I built a BFM O10 and use it with my NeoPak.
It freakin' ROCKS.
End of story. End of gear search, unless I start playing much bigger gigs, which is unlikely at present.

Hello;
I saw your PM. Since you have a 4 ohm, why don't you let us bring it in, do the upgrade and check out the rattle.

All at no-charge...we'll cover shipping both ways...turn around...two weeks.

With the 100's and 100's of these in the market, the amount of rattle issues we've heard can't really be described as a phenomena...that implies it is a "known" or on-going situation. If that were the case, we could point to a systemic issue and tell you what it was and how to fix it. Frankly, I haven't heard of this as an issue until now.

Please see my PM ....maybe we can diagnose. Either way, we can service this very quickly and get you the uprgrade.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Not even interested in a Shuttle at this point as the Neo-Pak gives me everything I want and then some.

Also, +100000 to GB product support in the previous post. AMAZING. I'm so going to use GB heads for the rest of my days...

Gotta love that level of service...very nice!

Thank you very much. I spoke with Chris earlier today. Amp will ship out this Saturday.

Appreciate Genz-Benz responsiveness.

To be honest, with my rattle, I didnt think it was a big deal, figured I would just tighten the fan grill or tighten loose AC socket or whatever.

I do love these things and knew if needed I could send it in, dont think I can hear it unless I am right by it, and if I have heads on a stand off cab, then it wouldnt rattle at all.

The real problem is, yall got me thinking bout these shuttles now...

just got my neo pak back from being upgraded to 2 ohms about 2-3 weeks ago! Thanks guys so much!

heres my question.

I have the ampeg bxt 1x15 and want to get the ampeg bxt 4x10 (these are the victor and steve bailey model amps)

I am wondering if my genz benz will be able to sufficiently power both of these amps with my 2 ohm load.

i have read through this thread, and even hoping to get others opinions on running a 15 and 4x10 with 250 watts in each cabinet.

Would I need more power?

Depends completely on how loud you need to be. If you play small venues then you should be ok, but if you play larger venues, especially w/out PA support you may want more amp.

i play through the 4x10 cab you mentioned (Ampeg) at our practice space w/ my NeoPak @ 4 ohms and during very loud practice it keeps up just fine. I haven't had the master past noon yet. Be forewarned, w/ that cab you may need to add quite a bit more mids to really be able to hear yourself. I set the mid boost at about 3 oclock and the freq at about 8-9 oclock and it works out great. We are playing an outdoor gig in about a month and I'll stack my Avatar B212 on top of the Ampeg cab for a 2 ohm load. I don't imagine having a problem with volume.

That will be the first time that amp will have been run at 2ohms...or even on a gig for that matter:D. I hope it makes you smile!

Dan

Hey Dan,
I've run a Neo Pak at 2 ohms before without any problem, just not with this speaker configuration. I cant wait to see how she does!!
With the Shuttle 6.0 I can only go to 2 of the 12's due to the 4 ohm minimum... with this one I can double the surface area and only lose 100 watts... gonna be interesting to see!!!

Very cool, I have no doubt the Neo can handle it..it was such a great little amp. The bag will be going out today for ya!
