I noticed i had that issue while living in NY with another brand amp many years ago.. I lived on the water on Long Island.. You are in LA.. somewhat close to the water... mmmmm anything is worth a try.. Im in texas now...although i travel with my 9.0 but dont spend much time in places...Its pretty dry here.. I hope that is the issue..

Gold contacts on jack normalling switches have gone the way of the buggy whip. Not available in production formats. Many years ago we used a gold plated Neutrik effcts loop jack and it had to be one of the worst jacks on the market. It was soon discontinued.
No way you can run that amp dimed. Prolly hearing the speakers overdrive/compress.
For giggles I hooked up my Shuttle 9.0 just into my 8 ohm SWR Golight 2x10 tonight and played for a while. I would not dare dime the master. I could only imagine how bad that would sound, with things on the verge of flying apart.
First I was impressed with how loud it was with the master half way up and both gain/levels at noon. I set the low boost and mid scoop on and pushed it on up some in volume. It was way louder with more bottom than my 72 Ampeg V4B dimed into my 4 ohm Golight 4x10. I sat there an ABed both back and fourth. I played it for a while with the mid scoop off and left the low boost in.
All I can say is I am so fortunate to have this Amp. The tube feel of it alone is worth the entrance fee, the extra grunt is just icing on the cake.
Who was it came along and said the latest flavor of the month amp sounded more tubey? I think theys is smokin motta. This 9.0 sounds more like a tube amp than my tube amp.
Just because the latest flavor has a knob that says tube on it means nothing but little fishies swimming right behind. Hope he don't make a right turn.I am just very fortunate to have run across this little bugger.

I think your expecting way more out of your cabs than your cabs can give. I'm sure I could dime my 9.0 and I'm sure I would not be pleased with the results.
It is hard to tell through the internet though.
Oh and Genz Benz is second to none with customer service. No one stands behind their products like these guys do.
I don't think that's the correct interpretation. What it probably means is that cabs can't keep up with the amp - you need to replace the cabs, not the amp.
And I agree - most likely cabs, not amp.

Give Jeff a call tomorrow morning at the factory. Explain to him what you are experiencing. He may have you talk to Scott about the exact conditions that you are operating it under (bass, pickups, any pedals, speakers etc.) to be sure it's not something stupid we are overlooking.

Just got off the phone with Jeff from Genz Benz. Super nice, helpful guy. Apparently its my EQ setting that is sapping the amp of its volume, particularly in the midrange. I had it set with the mid knob at 9 o'clock and the mid freq knob at 150hz or there abouts. But turning just the mid knob up past noon, the amp got what sounded like twice as loud to me. Unfortunately, I really don't like the sound of that setting. I find a have to cut at 150hz and dial the low knob back as well to get what I consider a clear tone.
Once in that setting, I really like the sound of the amp, its just set like that I am really leaving a lot of volume on the table. After going back and loking at my other amps I find this a little strange as I set my other amps mostly flat and use the onboard preamp EQ knobs on my bass to dial my sound in. This explains why my relatively flat set Trace Elliot appears louder than the Shuttle 9.0. But with the Shuttle 9.0, I find I can't set the EQ flat like that. I have to take a completely different approach, but the end result is preferable aside from the loss of volume by going that route.

I can't imagine how you could possibly gig with that EQ setting. Cutting that much at 150 hz has to just destroy your tone. Even if that's what sounds good to you, sometimes it's matter of us forcing our ear to relearn what should sound good and what shouldn't. IMHO.
Still, since you seem to like the other amps flat, I can't help but think something still isn't right here. The Genz, when set flat, shouldn't be THAT different from the others.
My 9.0 just arrived today. After going around the barn, with combos, heads (including a 6.0), and several iterations of biamped rack rigs, I'm sticking my stake in the ground, dammit, and I'm gonna make this work. Even if I only use the 9.0 as a four-pound power amp for a SansAmp or Pod X3 front end, it will still be insanely light, small enough to fit in my gig bag, and with all the power I should realistically ever need.
Not sure when I'll get a chance to crank it up and dial it in, but I'll report when I do.

I've used my 9.0 with a Sansamp Paradriver. A VERY usable,
different flavor. I will certainly use it in the right situations.
One of the things I like about the 9.0, is its overall flexibility
in design. Preamp out, power amp in, mute, etc.
Played my Shuttle 9.0 last night into my 2x10 Golight 8 ohm cab. Do not want to throw around names but we were trying a well known drummer out last night (been having drummer issues).
After my experience with an LMIII and my Golight 2x10 I figured it would not keep up. Wrong. Dang near shook the house down. Had a blast. This drummer was keeping me on my toes.
I too can not see what good would come from severly cutting 150 hz. Something aint jiving.
No EQ problems for me with the 9.0. I'm able to get all the tones I seek from it with ease and be very satisfied with the results.

Has anyone tried the Shuttle 9.0 with a Berg AE112? I really like the sound I'm getting with my HT322 but I'm contemplating a more modular and lightweight setup. I'm thinking about getting a pair of the AE112's.
