Genz-Benz Shuttle Megathread

OK I'll register the first complaint on the 1200
I just talked to our production guy (video) and they asked how to shut off...and I quote "Those insanely bright blue lights".
To which I responded "Oh you mean the Retna searing Blue LEDS???".
Them "Yeah, what the heck is up with those things?!?!?"
Me "Sorry, can't turn them off"
Them "Fine, they are getting Gaff tape or something on them, they mess with one of our shots and with the amp where it is sitting, people in the first row, messes with them!"

They ended up putting some Scotch Tape (not the clear stuff, but the frosted kind) over them to dull the glare.

I had a similar prob with my 750 and my REDDI. Those blue RSLEDs are dangerous!:cool:
 
Would someone please post that they bought the Shuttle and found it to be brittle and useless and thin and totally unsatisfactory? Please? At least tell me it can't handle two 4 ohm cabs.

Sure, I'd be glad to help you with that.

I've found Genz-Benz amplifiers to not be brittle and useless and thin and totally unsatisfactory in the least. I would also go so far to as it is the best bass tone I've ever heard coming from my fingers.

Two Shuttle 6.0 amplifiers can handle two 4 ohm cabs and still be quite small and light, while one Neo-Pak will offer that in a singular (albeit larger and less powerful) unit.

I can make shadow puppets on the wall from the bright LED of my REDDI.

My GT DITTO Box is the same way. One big a$$ blue LED on the darn thing!

Yeah, I was like 10 feet from the Shuttle and could see the blue on my shirt from those things!!

I can't imagine what the guys at church were doing!!! LOL!!!

I still need to find out what that thing can deliver before I order one.

I tried the LMII here, and it didnt really impress me.
it sounded kind of harsh and boring, it felt like there not much dynamic reserves.

If the shuttle has similar characteristics, I be some one wich would not really want one.

Is the tube in the Shuttle running on 260 volts ?
Full swing ?

And I believe it should be possible to state the voltage max @ 4 ohms
and the maximum amps which can be delivered.
at least that would give me the chance so approximately know what I order.
I cant really bring it back from over here, if I find out it does not do what I need.

It's official. I bought the Shuttle 3.0-10T today. I have tried it at almost all my usual venues and it has been more than enough. Stand alone for jazz, as a stage monitor with PA support, this thing is great.

My favorite little amp used to be my old SWR WM10. It kept up at rehearsals, did OK at some gigs, and was easy to carry around. This is like having a super good WM10.
 
The one thing I noticed with the 6.0/112 combo is when you use the tilt back stand (and MAN does it kick that thing back!!!) it that the amp really doesn't loose much of the coupling with the floor that a lot of smaller combos do when you tilt them.
Because of the rear ports maybe???

And the tone from flat on the floor to kicked back is pretty close. I don't know how to explain it- maybe wider dispersion?? I don't know how really, just thinking out loud.
But the tone doesn't change much.

KJung and I are gonna give the head a real good go against the LMII when he gets back in town.
But from my experience with the LMII (which is a nice sounding head) I really think the 6.0 is gonna do it a bit better. At least for my tastes.

I'm not the kind of guy to get something and run around saying it the greatest thing since half naked pictures of Danica Patrick. If it doesn't cut it, you'll know!
So far though...................half naked pictures of Danica Patrick or 6.0........half naked pictures of Danica Patrick or 6.0.......I dunno at this point!!!!:D

Peak current output is ~25 amps, maximum RMS voltage is ~50 volts. It's information that is relatively useless out of context though.

Read other user's impressions, I think they generally represent the real world performance pertty well. Perhaps PM one of them to get additional information regarding their personal feelings about how the amp works for their style?
 
You know, they're aren't all that bright unless you are DIRECTLY in front of them, and they are retina searing. I wonder if there would be a way to diffuse that center beam just a bit, yet retain their brightness. It would also make it easier to get down in front of the head when it is darker so you can read the hash marks on the knobs. If you stoop over in front of the head as it is, the Leds make it harder to read instead of easier. But outdoor, the LEDS are AWESOME.

Maybe a dimmer control? That would be cool.

I forgot, it also depends on the type of class I think.
D works different.
but what kind ampere on a class A/B amp would be equivalent,
something like 6 amperes ?

I guess the Tube isnt running on High voltage, that means it doesent do full swing.

I then let the bass player from the following play through it so that I could hear how it sounded through the house PA. The tone was great!!!! Big, fat, crystal clear. Sunday I'll be playing at the Wachovia Center and I'll use it with a Bergantino AE-410. I'll try to get a recording of it.

Use your ears, not your eyes when trying for good tone.

The last time I looked for good tone, I couldn't see any anywhere around.
So I tried listening.....and you know what?!?!? That little bugger showed up!!

After being in hotels for a week I can say it's nic to not have to leave gear in the car. The 6.0/neoX212 is an easy unload

You are just trying too hard here. The AMPLIFIER can deliver ~25 amps, meaning there is current available for 2500 watts peak or about 1250 watts RMS. So with voltage available for ~600 watts, you see that there's a 2x current reserve above what is required for purely resistive nominal impedance conditions It's by design to handle sub-nomimal impedance issues, and reactive leading power factor situations.

Class AB is much the same regarding the necessary current, but has ADDED issues that require derating due to linear operating conditions of the output stage that do not affect class D.

The tube runs at a lower voltage to take advantage of low microphonics and a quiet, more linear portion of the operating curve. It is capable of swinging plenty big and then some, as needed by the circuit's design. There's more to a design than a collection of buzz words and myths.
