Genz Benz - Shuttlemax

I don't know about that jnew: I have a nice rolling laptop bag I was given and the SM 12.0 fits snugly in there with room on the side to tuck my towel right next to it. Also slots to put my lyric book (over a 100 pages), and an compartment where I can stuff 4 heavy ass 4' speakons 2 extension cords and power cords etc. AND i have just done a few gigs in the last few months where I used an AE 212 and my Aguilar GS 1x12 or whatever they are and the 4 12's together just sounded great. Oh yea I suppose everything is getting downsized perhaps that's the reason for finding smaller bags. hmm just a thought.

Cool. I spent an hour on Ebay looking for a briefcase type laptop carry bag and all of them were just a bit on the shy side internally for the 9.2. Of course, once you get into types like a rolling bag, or bigger laptop bags ( 17" ), you are also talking more expensive than the GB carry bag ( $49.95 ). I'll keep looking though !

Definitely the 9.2 is way less grindy than the 9.0.

That mirrors my experience as well (Shuttle 9.0 and ShuttleMAX 12.0). It sounds to me like the ShuttleMAX has less of that G-B "tube emulation" going on.

Yup, I'm already waiting for the 12.2 but heres the question

I have (2) Epifani 310s at 5.3 ohms & 750w each.

90% of the time I'm running one cab. I do have a huge poweramp that could push 2 cabs using the 9.2 as a preamp. Obviously the 12.2 would be more ideal for the 2 cabs

So do I go 9.2 or 12.2?

The 9.2 would have more headroom into the single cab
The 12.2 would handle both cabs better without the power amp

I'm kind of on the fence, could go either way... any advice?

I think 400w into a 5.3 ohm load (UL310) from the 12.0 would be a good match.
You know those cab can't really make use of 750w, right?

I have two votes for the 12.2 vs the 9.2. I don't often use the 2 cabs but its nice to have when I do IF the reduction of headroom from a 12.2 to a 9.2 into (1) 5.3 ohm 750 w cab isn't a big deal.

I have had the opportunity to A/B my shuttlemax 12 and svt-2 pro three times in live settings in the past week. I found the experience enlightening and suprising so I thought I would share.

The cab I am using is the Genz Uber 212 and I was using my Fender deluxe jazz and Sadowsky MV5. The biggest difference I noticed right away was the volume. The 12.0 has A LOT more powerful low end and overall headroom through the 212's of the Uber cab. The SVT's low end gets real hairy real fast at loud show volumes. (Tone controls on the svt were set to a a sizeable cut in the bass, and a little bump in the highs. Mids were mostly flat with maybe a little bump with the selector on 3) Im sure I wouldnt have to push the SVT nearly as much if I were running a fridge, but it is worth noting that the shuttlemax absolutely kills through the Uber...Im talking...kills compared to the svt.

The upside to the SVT was the tone....oh the tone. But at show volumes I was getting a little lost in the mix due to not being able to turn up louder without getting too much distortion in the low end. By cutting the bass I was able to crank it pretty loud without too much hair on the low B (although the lowest notes seemed too low for the SVT). My 4 string Jazz didnt suffer from this loss of low end and the shuttlemax had ZERO problems pumping out plenty of crazy low B insanity. The volume seemed touchy on the SVT as well...a little bump and it was distorting, a little cut and it was too low with the master cranked.

Also the tone controls on the SVT seemed to have a limited range compared to the shuttlemax which let me sculpt my tone with impunity...the svt always sounded like an svt. It just so happens that the svt's sound is AMAZING (especially before the low end started farting out)...the shuttlemax couldnt really do a great impression of the svt, but it could get pretty close...and could definitely pull off several flavors of "vintage".

Im going to run the test again when I get my 810e, but for now--through the Uber 212--the shuttlemax was definitely a cut above the svt with a better eq, more power, not to mention the shuttlemax weighs less than my bag of spare cables.

My suggestion would be the 12.0 as well. FAR more convenient of you are traveling much.

You will get ~400-450 watt per box which is just about right IMO (about 150 watts per driver) and not get into the area where power compression or mechanical limitations become an issue.

Thanks for the response my man. Like I said, I dont use the 2 cabs too often but when I do the 12.2 will be much more handy.

Am I the 1st to have a countdown clock to the Shuttlemax 12.2? Can't wait & have already sold off $650 worth of gear to get it... still have some more stuff to go!

I have ZERO inside info, so just guessing. Since Genz has covered the 'all tube emulation' thing wonderfully with the Streamliner, and the hybrid thing with the Shuttle line, my guess would be that they will be introducing a small, very powerful all solid state model (since that is missing in their product line).

Who knows, but I would most likely take the plunge on one of those!

I"M BEGGING FOR A MUTE BUTTON ON THE FOOTSWITCH !!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!

Rolled out the Streamliner today & it sounds fantastic with GK NEO cabs but my Epifanis are begging for a new amp. I desperately needed a footswitch mute today playing in church.

I have to set my head up to the front of the stage & play behind it. I have to mute\unmute about 10x per session so my head has to sit on the floor near me just so I can mute... it sucks!

PLEASE? Honestly, I'm begging you to add a mute to that footswitch. Its really the only reason I would even bother to hook the footswitch up.

I know you probably have it all designed & ready to roll for NAMM but if theres anything GB could do.

Can I get a witness?

Just get a turbotuner by sonic and be happy!. As long as you are looking for an extra box anyway, you might as well have an amazing tuner as part of the deal. The Turbo Tuner is true bypass, and the best tuner on the market regarding tracking and accuracy. It is as small as any mute switch would be. End of issue:p

Would it mute the PRE EQ signal going to the board? Thats the issue

Of course... a mute between your bass and amp will mute anything going into the amp. The tuner will stay on and there will be battery drain when the tuner is in mute mode (i.e., it really is a tuner mute), but that should still work fine.

Of course, the other thing to do and not spend any money is just turn your bass down between sets or whatever:smug: Or, in your unusual situation above, just turn the amp around on the cab so it faces you.
