Genz Benz Streamliner, Part 10

Yeah, mine too. In fact, at a gig a few months ago, it got left on top of one of our cars, tumbled off, spent a dewy night in the parking lot, got brought inside by a very friendly local the next day, and brought to rehearsal without missing a beat that night.

On the verge of picking up a Streamliner 900.
Been a die hard Ashdown guy for years, but the tones, reviews (including these threads) and convenience are converting me.
That and already owning a NX2 212T that I hear pairs nicely with it...

I used my new NX2 cab with my Streamliner 900 first time at gig last Friday. I use the STM-900 with the SVT settings. It really seems to wrangle those huge lows some complain of.

The NX2 cab is a punchy beast. I'd been using my P5 but this nite used my MTD KZ5 modded with US Bart J pups and Aggie OBP-3 pre. This bass has some big mids and it worked great with my new bass rig setup.

I have used the 900 head with my NeoX 212T and P5 alot in the past year. That's been my "go to" rig for a few bands that I gigged with where I got no PA support. I've not compared the NX2 side by side with my NeoX 212T. But just from memory the NX2 seems abit more modern with clean, punchy mids than the NeoX.

New band really liked that the KZ5 bass was very punchy and damn loud in this rig. But I really prefer the Am St P5 so will go back to that bass at next gig in same club in a couple weeks for comparison.

I predominantly play Allman Bros. Band/ Gov't Mule / classic Blues Rock on a Gibson SG bass and custom "Tractor" Jazz bass.

With my ABM Evo II into tbe NX2 212T I can get both a nice Allen Woody and Andy Hess Tone. Looking for the same, but with greater portability and a bump in power.
Am I barking up the wrong tree?

I decided to give the Tung Sol 12AX7 in V1 slot. Played outdoors and this amp was a tone monster with plenty of volume and earth shaking lows and smooth highs. The one and only problem I have is when playing indoors with the 10 db switch engaged and the bass pickups switched to series mode. If you turn the treble or mid control on the bass past the mid detente by much it goes into very high ear piercing oscillation. Like wise if you turn the bass control much past mid detente it oscillates at a low frequency that vibrates the drum heads across the room. Put it in standard parallel mode and all is fine. The bass in question is an ESP 5 string with pre-amp. NOTE: this happens whether I use my speaker cabs or a friends old 2x15 Acoustic 360 cab that is lower voiced.

Just wanted to drop by and echo everyone's love for the GB Streamliner 900.

After selling my Shuttlemax 9.2 a couple months ago (the tube channel was severly lacking in tubey warmth)... I finally picked up a Streamliner 900 off of eBay (brand new for $650.00 shipped!). I am soo happy I replaced the SM 9.2 with this amp. I was originally worried I wouldn't be able to get a clean tone out of the Streamliner but this amp does it all very well. From having the gain rolled to 8 and having a very clean tone to having it cranked past 2 and really adding some dirt to the mix.

I highly recommend this amp if you do not need parametric eq, do not gig with a second bass that requires different settings (double bass) and do not use effects to get your dirt (the FET channel is perfect for having a clean HiFi palate for adding effects).

Fwiw, I am running the Streamliner 900 through 2 fEARful 15/6/1s and a G&L L2500. Very happy with this purchase.

Too much overall gain for the isolation that your pickups (in series mode) provide. The vibrations are being passed into your pickup which begins to vibrate microphonicly and add to the signal. If the loop gain is high enough, it will oscillate. It's all part of basic control loop theory.

You might check to see if perhaps one of your pickup has become microphonic or the mounting isolation has failed.

Just had my Streamliner out on a hot humid day gig... At 4 ohms... LOUD.. Keeps on going..Mp issues at all... . Last summer it went on about 40 dates in HOT 100+ degree outdoor gigs....Some during the daytime where Sun may come in at an angle and beat down on the amp... Never stopped once...
Its pretty bullet proof..

my main band is going mostly FOH (got a nice JBL subwoofer) but I've made clear that my Streamliner 900 is still my amp. So it's DI out from the STM into the PA and I stripped down my Shuttle 3.0-8T to just the speaker to use out of the STM speaker output as my bass monitor. So far so good. The drummer (who also does our PA, go figure) can hear the difference with the Streamliner and understands why I'm using it.

Parenthetically - the Shuttle 8" speaker cab is theoretically a separate product, but try to find one. Great little cab.

This is after the STM 900 drove a stack of Bag End 15s at our last two gigs - so it can do it all

Thank you, I understand all but the "mounting isolation has failed". Can you expound on that please?

The internal components of the pickup must not vibrate within the inside of the case or housing. The string normally moves through the magnetic field of the poor piece but if the pole is moving relative to the string that will generate an additional signal that is called a micro phonic signal. This would be caused in your case where the vibration of the bass causes the pole piece(s) to move (vibrate).

I had and ABM-500 and MUCH prefer the Streamliner...just my $0.0000000000000002!

Yeah I had an ABM-500 before upgrading to a streamliner (which wiped the floor with it), and now have an Ashdown CTM-300 all-tube head, and frankly I'd put them about on par. Neither one gives me enough volume, but they both sound beautiful. But the streamliner does it at 1/2 the price and 1/10th the weight.

Ok, thanks. I didn't think microphonic would sound like a very high pitched squeal. I will check the pickups and mounting.

I really like how the STM-900 sounds through my cabs without effects but am waiting for release of the Tech21 VTBass DI pedal. I'm looking forward to trying this with the Streamliner for adding a whole range of new tones. I like that it has bass, treble, and (500hz) mid control in addition to all the other tone shaping.
