Genz Benz Streamliner; Part 4

I LOVE my Tri-115 with a Shuttle 6.0! I've never matched it up with a Tri-112.

Dan K.

Just ordered an SL900. But I have a question because up till now have only used very basic gear. The amp has two parallel speakon outputs. I plan on getting two separate cabs. If they are 8 ohm cabs, do I daisy chain them from one of the outputs? If I had 4 ohm cabs, would I connect one to each outlet?

And speaking of cabs, I'm thinking Accugroove Tri 115 with a Tri 112. I'm also thinking about the GB Uber cabs. Any thoughts or comments on pros and cons of each. Thanks for reading.

The Streamliner actually is a 'simple' amp... standard solid state amp. Like virtually all solid state amps the two speakon power outputs are parallel, and hooking two 8ohm cabs up, one to each speakon is literally identical to running one from the amp, and then daisy chaining the other using the second speakon on the cab.

If you have two 4ohm cabs, you have to either do all the series stuff, which of course will result in your amp running at half its rated power, or buy a more appropriate amp for you cabs (within the Genz line, that would be the Shuttle Max 12).

Quite simply, the 900 into an Avatar TB153 is superb:as loud as any 410 pushed to its' limit, with clearer lows....really. I cannot fathom a better match for anywhere near the price of that cab, as long as you're willing to haul 65 lbs.

I'm really looking forward to hearing mine with one of Don's 15/6's. Every bone in my body says that will be the real deal!

Are there audio/video clips anywhere with a Streamliner in growling, 810-fridge, ROCK mode?

I'm appreciative for what's out there now, but I would very much like for someone to really push the amp in "Geezer Butler" style :-)

Cheers!

No video from me, but I plugged the SL900 into an SVT Fridge at the Oakland GTG, and the sound was massive ROCK.

Scary classic great sound.

It is:p:p:p:p
The 900 and LDS nEarful 15-6 is my new One. My TB153 will likely be sold after I return from vacation. Don's cab is much lighter than the Avatar and sounds virtually the same.

HOLY $hit!

My STM-900 paired with the Uber Quad is scary!

I have one question. How do you get the amp to distort like Ed Friedland did in the youtube demo. I believe he was playing White Room?

Engage the boost control, crank the pre gain to taste (or lack of taste!), turn the secondary volume WAY down to compensate so you don't distort the EQ section, and then just grind away:D

I've found on my passive basses this can be a bit of a chore. They just never get scary overdriven even with a heavy attack. Now my active ones? That's a different story.

That's why Genz used a relatively hot input gain structure with this amp. With the gain boost button engaged, virtually any bass can overdrive the tube input stage nicely IMO and IME.

Hey! Don't forget the GBE 1200! :)

As good as you are making the Streamliners sound, I don't think I'll be letting go of my 1200 any time soon. It is just hard to imagine that the Streamliners can do anything the 1200 can't do, except at about 50 pounds lighter. Even though I am aging, I don't mind the extra weight. :D

+1 Nicely handles a 2ohm load. Quite a different voicing from the Streamliner though, but great in its own way.

Agreed I just can't get anywhere near the amount of overdrive on my passive Jazz as I can my active basses. Not a big deal though as I absolutely love what I can dial up. Smoooooooooooooth.

From what I hear, the tube channel on the 1200 (I owned one for a while) doesn't sound anything like the Streamliner. I think the difference in sound would be really significant if you are wanting a more authentic tube tone.

I think thats what the craze is all about... people who have had their amp say tube but sound nothing like it. LM tube, my Eden Navigator, GK Fusion whatever.

This may be the 1st micro that REALLY sounds like a tube amp.

This is what I have been waiting to hear Lomo after we both blew up the Avatar 153 Thread! I am waiting on my ST 900 from YOMS (been over 2 weeks total, but I switched from a 600 to 900?) and cant wait to hear it thru the Avatar. in the meantime, I still LOVE my Genz Benz Shutlemax 6.0.

Sidenote: Mooch; Sorry for the bunk advice dude regarding the 3015 LF 15" Driver and thank you for the clarification Chef!
If you can swing it, I would recommend an Avatar TB 153 for your needs. It is $450 and just sounds incredibly full range and nice a clean even at extreme volumes. Here is a link if you are interested and some of my video clips of the cab in real gigging action are featured at the bottom.

* I am not endorsed or paid, just think it is an incredible product for the $.:p
