Genz Benz Streamliner; Part 4

Doing a fly date with my SL900 tonight and tomorrow. Thinking of getting a case made for this and the guitar players pedal boards for these gigs. Mmmmmmmmm

Who would you use to have a case made? I don't want a rack mount, but worry sometimes about a bag and would like a case made that has a small form factor with good protection. Just curious about what your thinking of doing.

ooops hit the wrong button.. had to repost. Coffee latte didn't kick in yet.

Well the bag is really very good if you are carrying your gear yourself. But if someone else is doing it, i need the protection.
I play with a band that travels overseas at times and i was putting my shuttle 9 in my suitcase..
But the Guitar guys were saying they wanted to get a case made to put there pedal boards in. Both of them together.. And the tech guy said why not put all the guys stuff in one larger case.. So I was like sure!
I dont remember who made my speaker cab cases.. some guy in PA...
I will just have them make a slotted area with wood divider with 1"-2" foam to slide the SL900 and cables in.. that way it is protected and travels with their stuff..
For home, I ALWAYS gig bag it.. As well as my basses.. a gig bag is fine for anything that i move myself in my car...
My shuttle 9 went with me everywhere! Including a few Europe trips in its gig bag...inside my luggage..
I will get a gig bag for the SL900 when they are available. but for these other trips i will let them do what they want and case it with the other guys stuff.

The Avatar TB153 uses a 3015LF, which is much more of a sub than a full range speaker.
Furthermore, theirs is 4 ohm, custom built for them, and not available for re-sale.

So I googled an Avatar 3015 replacement speaker and had no luck in finding anything. Where or who sells this and how much?

Just ordered an SL900. But I have a question because up till now have only used very basic gear. The amp has two parallel speakon outputs. I plan on getting two separate cabs. If they are 8 ohm cabs, do I daisy chain them from one of the outputs? If I had 4 ohm cabs, would I connect one to each outlet?

And speaking of cabs, I'm thinking Accugroove Tri 115 with a Tri 112. I'm also thinking about the GB Uber cabs. Any thoughts or comments on pros and cons of each. Thanks for reading.

Just double checking, thanks Agedhorse & hasbeen, this is REALLY big for me... the SL as a headphone amp is 95% of my current usage... at least a hour daily. I have my headphones up for sale & had some offers but don't have to sell them now & take the loss! The streamliner tone in my headphone amp & can push my 250 ohm cans? Awesome!!!! Ordering ASAP now.

I would recommend waiting and trying your phones with your new amp. They may still not be what you want but you should certainly give it a try before automatically assuming they won't work.

2 8ohmers into their own speakon on the amp. Can't use 2 4ohm unless you buy a shuttlemax12

OK. So each 8 ohm cab gets connected independently to it's own speakon output. But.... just out of curiosity, could they be daisy-chained to one output? Any difference in sound if they can be connected in each of those ways.

Also, I know that running 2 4-ohm cabs normally would create a 2-ohm load, but reason I asked is that I wasn't sure if the fact that the two outputs on the amp are parallel instead of serial made a difference. Thanks for edjamacatin me guys!!!

Im going to try my cans through my powered mixer... if I can get good volume through there I'd assume it would work through the SL. Thanks for the help, 250 ohms is a lot of resistance. I'm going to place the order for SL900 tomorrow if all goes well! :hyper:

Daisy-chaining or each connected to its own output are identical electronically (parallel). You can make yourself a serial cable to connect 2 4 Ohm cabinets together to create an 8 Ohm load. There's a few links on TB, I think Munji made one.

You can't run two 4 ohm cabs; that would create a 2 ohm load on the amp.

I suppose that depends on how they are wired and connected to the amp. The above statement assumes the proposed two 4ohm cabs would be connected in parallel which would create a 2ohm load - of course this is not possible with the Streamliner 600/900.

However, in theory if you custom wire them in SERIES, you are able to connect more than one 4ohm cab to the Streamliner 600/900.

Option 1 - If you wired 2ea. 4ohm cabs in SERIES, that would result in an 8ohm load at the amp. So basically 250watts for each cab since this head is rated at 500watts at 8ohms.

Option 2 -If you wired 2ea. 4ohm cabs in SERIES to output A and 1ea. 8ohm cab to output B, that would result in a 4ohm load at the amp. So, basically 225 watts for each 4ohm cab in SERIES and and 450watts for the single 8ohm cab since this head is rated at 900watts at 4ohms.

Option 3 - You potentially could wire 4ea. 4ohm cabs (two on each output of amp) to create a resulting 4ohm load on the amp. However, that would would provide basically 225watts for each 4ohm cab since this head is rated at 900watts at 4ohms.

These illustrations may help clear up the wiring part. Note, the two 4ohm cabs in parallel could be duplicated on the second output in place of the 8ohm cab shown if desired.

Of course power is not free. More surface area would move with more cabs. However, the power (watts) pushing the increased surface area will be reduced as it is dispersed across more drivers.

Connecting to your powered mixer will tell you nothing. There are many different ways to drive headphones and I doubt your powered mixer does it the same way as the Shuttles or Streamliners.

I'm just saying that I'll probably get rid of the cans if they can't handle my mixer anyway while I'm waiting for the SL.

I actually have a headphone out on my Navigator, I'll try that too.

I want the cans to be able to work in a couple applications, not just my streamliner.
