Genz Benz Streamliner; Part 4

That's why I double box. When I sold and shipped out both my GK Fusion and MB LMTube, I put the amp in the original box, then put that box inside another one.

But since I have a bass en route right now, I'll not say anything bad about package handlers. I love them all...

On a semi-related topic, just got my Shuttle 9.0. Different tone than the S900 set flat, but so far I like 'em both. I have to gig it to tell though...

Yes, double-boxing is a good idea... Way back in my college days, I worked as a crew leader for a major package handler loading planes on the midnight shift... It was NOT an easy job and mishandling a package is not just due to neglect ('throw' ten or so really large packages full of 'feathers' followed by a small one full of lead ...small one gets dropped - especially if the guy handing it to you pretends it's even lighter than a box of feathers...) - and the way some packages were designed, they failed no matter how careful the handling... But, there was definitely some thought put into the Streamliner package...

By the way, I really appreciated your clips (and I listened to all of them...) - very nice (and, I don't think any were too bass heavy - 'course I like hearing the bass!)!

I was thinking of throwing a sovtek and a tung-sol tube in this head just for fun, if I don't already love what tubes come in it.

I want a darker, grindy tone out of this sucker, I'm not sure whats best but thats what I have lying around the house.

What tubes does anyone suggest? and what comes in the head from the factory anyway?

I think they come with Ruby tubes... I think they are pretty decent...

You concur with Ed F. on SL vs Shuttle?

In general. I hate to come to conclusions until I gig an amp as the living room isn't "real world" to me. I'll have the Shuttle out Sun night as Sat nights gig has a backline at the club. The Shuttle isn't quite as fat as the S900 - or you can say the S900 is "warmer" than the Shuttle. I actually was a little surprised by the Shuttle. I had previously played a 6.0 and found that to be pretty clean/clinical/modern. I expected the 9.0 to be similar but in fact I was pleasantly surprised to hear a fair amount of width to the tone. The Rob Allen sounded best of my basses. I dialed a little bass down on the instrument, and the Shuttle is *very* good at dealing with the piezo sound. Very detailed. No way that you can get anywhere near the gain tones on the Shuttle though. That is the biggest different to me, as well as the inherent low mid fatness on the S900.

Is anyone who has the Streamliner using it in a metal band? If so, how do you find it for that style?

I put this in the GBE 1200/M9/SL thread too :)

My singer got shipped to Washington DC, so my band is unfortunately on hold for the moment - no chance to work with the Streamliner yet I do know that BuffaloBob4343's band plays a lot of hard rock and metal, and thus far his findings have been that the Streamliner sounds fantastic on his gigs. That said, given the way I EQ my M9 in the band setting and my findings of the Streamliner tone I think it will be great for metal. The low end is nice and fat, but backing the bass down just a little bit gives it a lot of punch... big, but still controlled. The SL doesn't feel as "immediate" as the M6/M9, but it's not sluggish either. I owned, practiced, and gigged an M6 for almost 2 years before picking up my M9 and it's a great amp indeed.

For me, it would really come down to tonal goals. If you think you'll want the sizzly, ultra-modern tone available to you, the M6 would be the way to go. Otherwise, the Streamliner really covers a lot of the same ground as the Carbines and does so with a fatter, warmer feel while allowing you to dial in some OD, which the Carbines do not do.

My SL600 is in customs ...

If I am very lucky, the are gonna release it later today and I'll have it for rehearsal tomorrow night. Then I can immediately compare it to my SA200....
I have a tour coming up in April this year, so maybe I can leave the SA200 at home.

My son is a warehouse supervisor for one of the major shipping companies. Packages are routinely subject to incredible abuse, both intentional and unintentional. Pack your amps and basses well and insure everything for full value or else!
:bawl:

So I've been following the threads and listening to samples and I've been thinking about the Streamliner 600 (plenty of power for my needs). I love a nice, clean, tube tone and only use the overdrive on occasion - certainly not enough to invest in a tube pre/power amp. Yesterday, I decided to call around and see what's available and check prices. YOMS happened to have a 600 in stock and at a crazy good price so....
guess what's on it's way to B-more?
:hyper:

I can't wait to hear you impressions of the SL next to your SA200.

By March 21st, I will have rough MP3's of the new album from Link Removed, as my SL900 will be going directly into the studio when it arrives next week.

Stay tuned.

PS - please bear in mind that the music on the player right now is a LIVE recording and not too good....:hmm:
