Genz Benz Streamliner; Part 4

That is my at home practice speaker cab that i never take out.. The SL900 sounds Superb through the cab.. The silky top end of the amp comes through and already silky tweeter on that cab...
To what i like to hear it is a fantastic combination.
It can get fairly loud too. I wouldn't do a rock gig with only one of those cabs though..
But the overall tone is smooth with both top and bottom ends being like silky butter..

Anybody played a GB SL600 or 900 through a single Berg HT12-ER Cab?
Sorry if it's in one of the 4 threads!. I gave up looking through all of the post!

Thanks!

GRoberts. I should have mine in time for our gig from 9-midnight at Kazimierz in Old Town Scottsdale. I don't know if you canmake it but we could mess around with it during breaks. Bring your bass if you want to come check it out! PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for the invite! Where in Old Town Scottsdale is that? I grew up in Scottsdale. What day and time is your gig? Thanks again.

Joe, within the next day I (hopefully) will be one of those guys who will play a bass (Roscoe, Lull & Modulus) through a Streamliner 900 and the Berg HT112 cab. UPS has informed me tomorrow is the day!!!

Stay tuned.. *Note- you can thank (blame) a certain music dealer named Greg for this update.:)

Thanks for the input. 95% of my gigs only require a single Berg 112 and the others have PA support. I'm thinking that the SL600 would be comparable to the Thunderfunk 550 and Epi UL-502 that I've been using. If the amp really sounds like 375 @ 8 and 600 @ 4 I should be fine.
I'm also considering the Max 9.2 because of the dual channel and EQ sections (I switch from fretted & fretless a good bit).

I had a thunderfunk 550B a few years ago.. then i got the shuttle 6 and i thought the shuttle6 appeared louder than the TF to me.. Im guessing you will be good with the SL600

Ok, it's Saturday and I have spent some time really getting to know my SL 900 (just purchased it three days ago) ... and doing a final A/B comparison with my Shuttle 9.0 (an excellent amp itself), befaore packing and shipping it. I must say that I am loving the Streamliner 900 so far ... and will still need to take some time getting used to it. I'm playing an assortment of 4 and 5-string passive and passive/active basses through it (Mike Lull M5V ash/maple; custom "LullDowsky" 4-string with Aguilar pickups and preamp plus Sadowsky's VTC; Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass with S-1 pickup switching; and American Standard P-Bass), plus my wife has two passive basses (Dean and Fender Musicmaster that I upgraded with a strings-through-body bridge and most-importantly an Aero "MusicMasterer" pickup).

The three-tube preamp/midrange control in this SL 900 really adds both versatility and "balls" to the amp that was slightly-lacking in the Shuttle 9.0. As has been mentioned many times already, the SL 900 has a distinct character of its own and it is both warm and powerful/gutsy at the same time. As has also been previously-noted, a little adjustment goes a LONG way with the EQ controls and tube gain on this amp! I find that the 220Hz setting on the active tube-driven midrange frequency control/filter actually adds a bit of "boominess" with my basses ... particularly with the Lull 5-string and my by-nature "bottom-heavy" passive Am Std P-Bass. For most situations, I think that the mid filter will remain set at the 600Hz center setting ... maybe if I am playing raggae or some other dub-based music, I'll set this control at 220Hz. With "hot" active basses, such as my Lull 5-string, I definitely use the low-gain setting (gain control button in the 'out' position) and about as high as I go with the tube gain knob is 10:00 to 11:00. However, with my two passive basses, I give it quite a bit more tube gain (2:00 to close to 3:00 on the dial). My "LullDowsky" is not as "hot" an active bass as the Lull 5er (9V vs 18V preamp power, plus I have the "LullDowsky" preamp trim pot set a bit lower, for less internal gain -- I may also need to trim-back the setting on my Lull 5er with this amp!). Therefore, I can play around with more tube gain and/or not using the high-gain button with this bass.

I am playing through an Epifani 5.3 Ohm UL Series 2 310 cabinet (thought about going with a UL410, but I think I will hold-off on that for a while), and I'm sure that, even at 'practice volumes', I drive the neighbors crazy with this combination. This thing REALLY kicks ... even at a master volume setting of about '2' (8:00 on the dial).

That's all for now ... more to follow, as I get some "real-world" experience (gigs).

Just a pure IMO here, but I owned a UL310 S2 and thought it was more scooped sounding then the Ul410s, so you may need to cut some of the low end and boost some of the mids to even that cab out depending on what bass you are using.

I'll have both my S900 and Shuttle 9.0 in hand tomorrow and have rehearsal. I'll pass on the backline and bring a Berg cab and both amps and record swapping between the two heads. Was impressed with the Shuttle 9.0 tonight at the jazz gig. I think I prefer the RA through that head over the S900. Tomorrow will be mostly P-Bass though and maybe a little Roscoe fretless.

+1 that 220hz low mid control will be the 310UL's friend.

Combined with some bass cut IMHO. That cab is a bit too open down low for my tastes.
