Genz-Benz Streamliner Part 5

I was looking into the Gigskinz small mixer bag and the specs show 12.25-H x 11.5-W x 3.25-D. My Streamliner is ,approx, 11.5 - front of knobs to back,10-W and 3.25-D. If these are the accurate specs for the bag then the head should fit knobs up.Can someone clarify?Thanks.

I've got the small Gigkinz mixer bag and my SL600 fits perfectly with knobs up. My power cord, instrument cable and speakon cable all fit in the larger of two additional zippered compartments. I don't think the new Genz Benz bag would have room for the cables, etc. but I'm only guessing based on the Shuttle 6.0 bag I used to have.

Manufacturer bags in my experience are usually just fine for protection as long as you are moving the gear yourself and not throwing it in a touring trailer. I have the Gigskinz bag, and while it is a bit nicer than most manufacturer bags, one thing that REALLY bothers me with it is that the Streamliner has to be turned sideways to fit. That means that when holding the loaded bag by the straps, the knobs are facing forward or backward such that if it were swung into a wall or door jamb while walking, those knobs would take the impact. As such, I can't really recommend the Gigskinz bag for the Streamliners, and would suggest buying the Genz bag instead even though I haven't seen it.

Just got the Streamliner bag. It is 'OK'.... average quality and padding (decent, no problem). The downside is it is a VERY tight fit, with the knobs really pushing on the top of the bag when it is closed. I wouldn't really recommend the bag quite frankly. Those Ginskins bags or whatever they are called is probably the way to go.

IMO.

I'm a little underwhelmed with the bag myself.

U will have to turn it to the side, it doesnt matter cuz its padded very well on sides, top, and back! I am very pleased with it.

Not padded enough to take a knock on those knobs. They'll still absorb the shock if you happen to swing it into a hard object. When you're loading in tight spaces with a bass and cabinet on a cart, this can happen. I'm extra careful with my stuff, but no gig bag padding will really stop that kind of damage IMHO.

When you're loading in tight spaces with a bass and cabinet on a cart, this can happen. I'm extra careful with my stuff, but no gig bag padding will really stop that kind of damage IMHO.

I wont argue that, but its well padded. I coddle my gear and basses as much as possible so as not too have an issue from me being careless and bumping into things that could damage my gear.

I've got the bag in the bottom picture (the newer model I believe) and my SL600 fits perfectly with knobs up toward the handle/strap. Plenty of room for cables in the spare pockets. I think its cool looking, sturdy but light and well made and offers more than adequate padding especially since the knobs will be facing up. It has two additional zippered pockets. It also has a smaller zipperd pouch on the inside front cover for picks, etc. The cover flap folds over the two zippered pockets and the compartment that the amp sits in which offers even more padding. The zippers seem to be more heavy duty then others I've had. It helped to coat the zippers with a little Chapstick to make them zip easier since Chapstick is petroleum based.

Yeah, mine is the older one like yours. Frankly, it's not a big deal, but I like the older pattern much better. Oh well.

100% correct .... same for my Streamliner 900! I just checked this, and there is a near glove-like fit, without being too tight.

BTW - Mine is the new model, with the dragon pattern on the exterior fabric.

Is the AGS engaged on your Tone Hammer, or not? That setting really changes up what the EQ settings doing.

I tried the AGS setting and I didn't like it as much as just normal operation with a mid boost (I guess a couple of dB's somewhere between 700 - 900k, right in between the mid EQ points of the SL900). The SL900 gain has a smoother grind tone than the Tone Hammer IMO.

It really has the feel and tone of a classic tube amp. So use it when you need that. When you want something more modern and Solid State sounding, plug that Tone Hammer into the FX return on the SL900, and put your bass directly into the Tone Hammer. Then you can use it with or without the AGS. That works great also!

I tried the TH into the Preamp in of the SL900 and it did not sound as good as using it to just eq a bit into the front input of the 900. I never really liked the Tone Hammer all that much as a dedicated preamp into a power amp. I tried it last year with an Acoustic Image amp. I had better luck with the VT Bass pedal in that fashion. I was about to sell the Tone Hammer to be honest but didn't get around to it.

For now the TH to me seems to give the Streamliner a bit of bite without mangling up the basic tone of a smooth, warm and tubey-esqe sounding amp.

BTW: what's the difference if I had an active preamp in my bass guitar that has a sweepable mid contro,l and what I'm using the Tone Hammer for? Are you only supposed to use passive basses with the Streamliner?

Just went to a local music store and tested the streamliner 600 and the 900. Not my thing...

I found it VERY different from the LMII as others pointed out here. Lots of low end, scooped mids... Just not me.

Still waiting for a 6 pounds Mesa M6.

Try the GKMBfusion.... it has that uber modern deep bass sizzly top end of the M6. Pretty nice if that is your thing.

Regarding the Streamliner, the EQ is quite different from the LMII, and more similar to the MPulse600. If you just set it neutral and play it will not give you the LMII thing at all.

I found it very similar to the MPulse!!! "Cushioned".

I had a Mesa M9, my favorite amp sound ever, but the amp shutdown twice on me during a show. As nice as it sounds, I can't have that happening. The LMII never failed me (knock on wood).

+1 Big and fat. On the gig, the low end of the Streamliner is much more controlled, which is a good thing, but I agree, it is in that DB750/MPulse600 tone universe, and it 'is what it is'.

Seriously, check out the GK MBFusion... it is much more of the M6/M9 type voicing to my ear.... deep, full low end, but very aggressive upper mids and a very modern treble extension.

That being said, nothing wrong with the LMII... did a million gigs with mine over the years and never had a problem... tonall or otherwise.

Hey that's my rig! Should I go in the basement and check?

I got tweeters with both my Berg cabs though. In case I ever wanted to split them up for some reason. Like leave one at one rehearsal place and have one at another. That being said, I do not use the tweeters much.

Man you can get that old school sound with two of those cabs , a P bass, and a Streamliner. It's such a pleasure.
