The lights in my oval window are out. :crying:

 I'm terribly sorry. :o Really odd....haven't heard this one before.

I'm in Germany as I type this but, I'll call Jeff G. and have him expect your call. Just tell him: "I'm the guy from TB with the LED issue in the oval window"......and let him know Roger sent you. 480.941.0705

We'll overnight you a replacement amp and get your unit back to the shop.

Things like this make me GLAD I got a Shuttle & KEEP me interested in GRABBING GB gear if I need sumtnin' new!
Good stuff!

Ernie with gentle persistence I tried to persuade Jeff G to offer an 8ohm NeoX-212. I would love to order 2 of these to use with my SL900. Man it would sound stellar vertically aligned and slightly overdriven.:bassist:

He's just not interested in doing an 8ohm version.

An 8ohm NeoX-212 would be a huge seller, especially with heads that are 4ohm min. It just gives the player more options.

Maybe Hasbeen could help us make it happen.

seansbrew: "Just ordered my Streamliner 900. I think it will be a perfect match for my Neo 212 XT."

Just ordered my STM-900 today. I have two Neox 212T's, sure wish I could use it with both cabs at once but no can do. Not sure a single 212T will work for me at my gigs, no PA support. My other cab options are two RS210's or really leaning this way, two Epi UL-410, 8 ohm cabs.

But I'm still searching thru these multi-threads and many pages where I think some said this amp is not best suited with the Epi cabs. Will mostly be using Am St P5 w/flats in Tx Blues context and alot of new country covers in second band. Maybe I should post in the "Streamliner Settings" thread, if cabs apply. Alot of info to read on this amp.

AND from adivin: "My lights went out The lights in my oval window are out."

OOH NOO, :( I thought the tubes were what lit up the front window on this amp. I even sent a message to my seller to "pls ship well packed as a few have recvd these amps with damaged tubes" hope they heard me. And I really hope yours gets up n runnin quick adivin. :atoz: Anticipating mine in, hopeful good working order. :hmm:

Have to pretty much totally disagree here. My feeling is the VAST majority of 212 users are looking for a single cab solution, so 4ohm makes sense. If you do want to use two, there are many heads that will either run at 2ohms, or are dual mono designs like the Shuttle Max 12. The percent of players who would carry around two 212, and would not consider a head that would run two of them at 2ohms or 4ohms dual mono would be tiny (IMO).

Also, it would require a company to spec an entirely different 12 driver at 16ohms or 4ohms, so there would be no economy of scale (i.e., you would be using different drivers in the 112 than in the 212).

IMO!

Maybe I am not understanding you correctly. But why did you buy an amp that only does 4 ohms when your preference is to run two 4ohm cabinets? Maybe I missed something here

An 8ohm NeoX-212 would be a huge seller...
I also disagree. I consider a 212 to be in the same class as a 410, and I've seen VERY VERY few of those sold at 8ohms, and one in particular (another vendor, but an 8 ohm 410) got discounted to a crazy low price just to get it to move after a LONG sell cycle. I also feel these classes of cabs, for most typical gigging musician scenarios, are most commonly used as single-cab rig solutions... as indicated by the cab mentioned above.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not discounting your desire or ability to effectively use such a product, that's fine. I would only argue that it would not be a huge seller for the general masses, which is what manufacturers really need to cater to.

Besides, if you really need that kind of radiation and the ability to most effectively use it, you're probably talking separate pre/power amp type stuff, in which case using dual 4 ohm cabs is just not a problem.

Again, just speaking in most common/general terms. Not being critical of your desires.

IMHO/IME

To clarify my situation, my amp arrived in perfect condition and has worked fine for several weeks. I recently noticed that the LED in the tube window does not light up anymore. The amp otherwise seems to be working fine. GB has already contacted me to take care of the situation. Truly outstanding!

Vic,

Make no mistake it's a TB culture thing and more common on sites with lots of users.

I participate on a boating forum. Where you can curse. Strongly disagree with someone and even discuss politics and it NEVER gets out of hand. These guys respect one another and especially those with more experience.

I agree with you the guys that want to run 2 4ohm cabinets have plenty of choice on the amp side to cover their needs. Having a 4 and 8 ohm version of the same cabinet is not easy on the parts and manufacturing end.

Also, it would require a company to spec an entirely diffent 12 driver at 16ohms or 4ohms, so there would be no economy of scale (i.e., you would be using different drivers in the 112 than in the 212).

Getting Em to develop versions of drivers in multiple impedances costs the cab maker one way or another too, in time and stocking issues. But the biggest gotcha is often how little performance gain there can be had in most cases. The alternate impedance drivers often fall farther from the target performance than the originals... in some of the cabs around that are offered in two impedances, people would be shocked to see the difference in what they are actually capable of. It's not too often you can get a sweet deal like the OEM 4-ohm 3012LF - and the reason that one works out will not be the case for many drivers that are used in bass cabs.

So watch out what you wish for, people ; }

I know that. That is what I was saying. :)

Hey, we should all be big kids and speak freely, but in reality, on TB and similar forums, emotion steps in and stomps all over logic and maturity too often. I'm happy to sugar coat my comments to avoid flame wars and minimize any potential for a misunderstanding. I just consider it part of the deal. No biggie. :)

Re; an 8 Ohm 2x12 cab......

I don't know how big a seller it would be, but from a consumer's advantage, it would be great to have the choice.
For instance, someone who loves the tone and features of a particular 4 Ohm rated amp (Streamliner?), and also loves the tone of a Neox 212T, but plays venues of hugely varying size. I play everything from small wedding receptions to large festival stages. The smaller gigs, I could use one cab, but for the big stages, the option of two 2x12 cabs would be sweet.
I'm just sayin' :)

you can pretty much run ANY amp with two 4ohm cabs. all you need is an adapter to run the cabinets in series rather than parallel, then the total becomes 8ohms. i do it all the time.

Yes, but this isn't optimal because now the amp is not running at it's ideal impedance for maximum power transfer, which is really what you want, especially when maximizing radiator area. I don't consider this to be a solution, IMHO.

Hey Eric, you could go to a pre/power rig with a two channel power amp, and run both 4 ohm 212 cabs ! :D
