Genz-Benz Streamliner Part 6

I had a Shuttle 6.0 for a brief period. I sold it rather fast as it had a rather thin low end.
After that I got a MB SA450 and it sounds way more balanced than the original Shuttle 6.0.

The Tech21 ParaDriver/MB SA450 has been my fav. sound for a looooong time, up until I got my SA200.... and now the STL600!

Got my sl900 yesterday...only tried it breifly through my Schroeder 15L...sounded awesome! Granted it was just in my bedroom but loved the tone set flat. I have to mess with it more though. I'm a happy camper! :)

Dave - to me it depends on how much of that BDDI you are using via the blend to get to your tone. The BDDI seriously scoops out the mids and fattens up the bottom, even with the EQ flat. If you are blending more than 40% of the wet ton, then it is possible that the SL will be right down your alley.

To be honest i really dont go over 10 o'clock on the blend, and tend to keep all the other knobs flat other than around 5 on the drive. I guess im not really using it to its max but i like what it does, especially the slight mid dip, it works well with my cab.

I do think its time to find a different tone that why im not really considering another MB head.

Thanks for the reply. This complicates things for me now.
Since my last post ive been looking at my options and i was almost convinced the shuttle 6.0 might be the ideal head. I dont mind a change of tone, in fact thats the idea, but i do like a nice (well, as nice as my small cab can get) low end.
I had a GK head a couple of years ago and while it had a great tone it sounded quite a bit thinner than my SA450.

Soooo, back to the SL600.....for now.

Dave,

With those settings on the BDDI, you might really like the SL. I used a BDDI with a slight blend like that many times over the years for a fat tone without too much mid scoop, and that's exactly where the SL starts.

They seem to sound quite different, although to tell the truth I haven't put the SL through the DB's for some reason, I guess because I was planning to get rid of them. I'll try it out tonight, but my initial thoughts are that the Neox is fatter, warmer, with more fundamental and less mix-cutting mids and aggression than the DB cabs. The Neox212 is a lot easier to move around, although I really don't care for the top-side handle design.

I'll let you know what a side-by-side comparison reveals.

We had Doug Johns and Jeff Genzler come through here and do a clinic a few weeks back. Doug ran through a LOT of GB gear combinations, and the Streamliner through the UBER 410 was my second favorite (a very close second behind the Streamliner/UBER Quad combination). It's a killer rig!

The Quad is slightly tighter sounding to my ears, slightly more clean across the entire spectrum. Especially with the Streamliner which has plenty of bottom for my tastes.

But it's really just two different flavors of awesome full range cab. I actually use both cabs (a Quad and a 115) in my personal rig. I put the Quad on top get that sound closer to my ears, and then I use the 115 to reinforce the lows.

I got my Neox212t and my Uber410 at the same time. I've played the Neox212t out a couple of times, like it very much for the smooth thick motowny thing. I'm hoping the Uber410 will do the aggressive rock thing, I'll find out in a couple of weeks when I play my next rock gig.

To on topic, I'm playing all these gigs with my SL900.

I got to check out the 900 last weekend and the S15D stack immediately popped into my head as something that would be a great combination with this head. Those cabs should keep the low end of the head in check, and really bring out the mids and high end in a pleasing way.

I'm running my SL9 through an Uber 410 and I'm here to tell you it will do the aggressive rock thang without breaking a sweat. I shakes hands with authority.

My buddy TBer Mikebass is driving a S15dx with a Streamliner 900 and it totally kills. Just as you say, perfect yin yang of a big, wide voiced head with a warm, tight cab that can take some watts.:bassist:

I got my SL900 from Greg in the first batch. I picked up
an AE210 from him today. I have only played them
together at home but so far I really like what I'm hearing.
I'm looking forward to your video's

My new Streamliner 900 and Berg AE210 arrived yesterday. Thanks Greg at RocketMusic - good deal, great service.

I'll spare you all the superlatives because I've only played it in my house and I'm at the very beginning of the honeymoon. I'll check back in after I've played it out a few times. For now, let me tell you I that I'm very impressed.

My current (previous?) micro rig is a TCE RH450 with two TC RS112 cabs. I've been very happy with that setup and had no logical reason to get the GB and Berg. Since when has that stopped any of us? I used to think G.A.S. was just a funny running joke, but am now convinced it is a real, chronic illness. I'd look for a cure if it wasn't so much fun. :D

I'll be doing some video comparisons of the two rigs, as I found KJung's and others to be a valuable resource. Thanks to everyone in this thread and others that have posted so much useful information.

Back to the Streamliner thread after the failed Eden Navigator grab...

The Streamliner is packed away for gigs, I practice with my Eden Navigator through the cab & I'm going to use a regular mixer for my headphones now that I know the amp (To save on some energy & not overuse the amp)

Love how this amp can turn the Sterling H into a freaking P bass
This is a great amp guys, if your primary goals are hi-fi, I'd go the Shuttlemax 9.2 but for most tonal variety, awesome tube tone & still a good amount of hi-fi this thing rocks.

I'm out for a while guys, time to hunker down in the Technique section & be a better bassplayer.

After a month of using this amp I can officially say it really is the best amp I've come across.
