Genz-Benz Streamliner Part 6

2 questions....

1. Is the 600 to powerful to use with a 400w 112 4ohm cab?
2. Anyone paired the Streamliners with Markbass cabs?

1a. The amp is powerful enough of course... it's more whether the 1x12" cab can TAKE the whole 350w (or so) @ 4 ohms. MOST 1x12" drivers will only handle about 170w max, before over-excursing(farting)

1b. I Didn't know MB offered a 1x12'' 4 ohm cab

2. I haven't & Dunno sorry

No, it does not. The aux in is summed to the FX rtn signal at that point but the DI post send is right before the summing. You are correct that it's not clear due to the basic level of detail shown in the block diagram.
Thanks. I figured as much. Was actually hoping it did, though that would make less sense. One more question:

Is the aux in high passed at all? The block schematic shows it is not though I don't know the freq response of the power amp section. I ask because I'm hoping to run my synth (moog little phatty) into the aux in. The moog can go super low so I should probably have some sort of HP protection in there (or just not play the super low notes).

I was just sorta thinking out loud when I stated "be cool if I could run my two Neox 212T's" with the STM-900. More to spread the power into two cabs. I am abit leary of running this 900 watts into a single 212 cab. But if it arrives in time, I have a few gigs where I can try this single cab, I'll just be cool with the volume knobs.

I do have a pre/pwer amp rig, a B1500 even a GB Neopak, 2 ohm modded that I can use with for my other than 4 ohm setups. I've got a series box that I tried with a LMII + a 8ohm/4ohm cab before. They were a Neox 112T and 212T, didn't work well powerwise and just a mess of 1/4" cables hanging outback wasn't worth it. And I've been living fine lately with using a single Neox 212T or a single UL-410, 8 ohm with either a LMII or F1 at most my gigs.

Just that with summer coming I have some gigs where I like to use 2 cabs and I've found loading and moving two Neox 212T's is abit easier than loading/carrying/moving two 410 cabs. So yeah, blues kat, two 8 ohm 212Ts would be cool for that, tho I never intimated it should or ever could happen. But I get it on both sides of that argument. No biggee.

I did not buy the STM-900 to use specifically with two 4 ohm cabs. I'm guessing it'll be fine running my single 4 or 8 ohm cabs as I've been doing with my Markbass heads.

But I've not got my grubby mits on the amp yet to see how it'll work with any of my cabs. Then I still have to add how it might sound with my 4 different basses I regularly gig. Thinking my two RS210's might be a nice setup, the F1 does great with these, stacked vert, takes minimal space on small stages. Just not sure how any of these will sound. I'll just have to see once it arrives.

I'm still in these mega-threads, barely on Part-II, re-reading all that's been posted of the STM amps. Alot of these posts seem they'd be better placed in the "STM Settings" thread. And some posts that shouldn't have been posted at all. :D

But I'm trudging along thru it all. Alot of information to be had here. Looking forward to my amp arriving soon, shipped out today. :hyper:

I could see where a 4x12 setup would be cool for the Streanliner 900. Talking about a Mammoth rig of doom. You could always pickup a Berg NV412.

I do see where most folks these days are trying to get the most out of the least, hence the 4 ohm 2x12. That being said I've been using two 1x12 cabs and it can get plenty loud enough. :bassist:

You could allways get one of the many custom builders around to build two 8 ohm versions. :)

No HPF on the aux in, so obviously use common sense ;)

Here's a potential 'contempt prior to investigation' concern regarding an SL900.

I never got a sound I liked from a DB750 and there are a lot of parallels and comparisons here asking if the SL900 will do the DB750 thing. Every time I played through a DB750 I felt it was way too wooly for me. The caveat is that I've 'listened' to plenty of players through a DB750 (live and recorded) and they sounded awesome! So what do I know? I'll have to find out for myself.

What is perhaps the more useful parallel in comparison and contrast is the SL900 compared to Mesa M6/M9 Carbine. I have read plenty of comments from those here who have both so I'm not trying to beat a dead horse. Or even an "Aged-horse" for that matter. :hiding:

Just wondering if there is enough sparkling sweet clarity in the SL900, with the potential for tight, focused punchy low end with enough complex midrange to cut through the mix. I seriously need to find out for myself.

End of Rhetoric. (or is it?)

I have the same feelings about the DB750 that you do. I also love the Carbine.

I really like the Streamliner though. I don't feel its that drastic of a similarity to the DB750 or else I would have returned it immediately. As Ken notes, it doesn't have the high end extension that the Carbine has, nor the immediacy of the punch.

While it doesn't do what the Carbine does, I didn't necessarily need what the Carbine does. Its got enough punch and headroom and while it isn't "tight and focused", its not exactly loose and floppy either. With the right cab I definitely think it can get decently tight. Regardless, I recommend trying one, I was worried about all the DB750 talk as well, but I think that was oversold.

just to be clear, the way i read it, the comparison was between the eden and a *shuttlemax 6.0*, not the shuttle 6.0

+1 Totally different animals. I am not a fan of the Shuttle 6.

Also +1 to literally all the other comments above... which is why I said the Streamliner 900 is a 'similar but BETTER' execution of the DB750 (better) and MPulse600 (MUCH better). Creamy and fat and smooth and full, but not flubby or wooly.

As you can tell from my new Avatar, I am TOTALLY digging the Streamliner 900 with my wonderful Nordy VP5... fat, big, authoritative, but still nice note definition and articulation. The 'P Bass tone in my head'.... all the good (fat, grunty, a bit growly) and none of the bad (flubby, undefined, boomy, wooly, nasty)!

So do you even hear the J bass tone in your head anymore, or has it been squelched completely at this point? :)

Don't think, just answer, the Emperor is waiting... ;) :D

I"ve played close to 200 shows or so with my DB750, and this amp is the ONLY amp I've had that can come close to that tone, the 3D like quality to each note that I can't really explain well if you've never experienced it. BUT, and this is a huge caveat, this is only one of the many capabilities of this head. It's not simply a DB750 in a lighter package.

Can anyone make a guess at how Berg HT112ER + EX112ER cabs would sound with a SL? Too deep perhaps?

I have this setup and it is full, clean and clear.I have an SL900 and these cabs can handle the performance volume I need with no sweat.Using an array of basses from a Rob Allen fretless,Lakland Hollowbody,'72 Jazz and a heavily modified Ibanez Blue Moon 5 string tuned E-C.Almost all of the serious tone tweeking takes place between the pre gain/vol and midrange controls. There is a world of drastic change and subtle shadings to be found in there. These cabs speak a warm, sweet, smooth language ,the key is to not put mud in so mud doesn't come out. Their sweet top end is tuned just the wqay I like it and matches well with the SL nice top end.Hope you can tell like this rig!

"Just wondering if there is enough sparkling sweet clarity in the SL900, with the potential for tight, focused punchy low end with enough complex midrange to cut through the mix." Just a bass player here, and everyone feel free to correct me, but your above statement sounds like you would like a 9.0 or a Shuttlemax 9 or 12.

Sorry for not explaining properly but the 4 ohm 112 cab is a Schroeder.....but I do have the MB CMD121P with the NY121 extension cabs (8 ohms of course)......

So do you mean that it's really useless to use any more than a 300w head if you're using a 4ohm 112 cab?

:p Still loving my J's. The AE212 and F500 still rules for that thing (as would the GK MB heads or the Shuttle Max heads). Nothing like that ash/maple Sadowsky or Alleva-Coppolo POPPING through that punchy, relatively transparent rig (and the Thunderchild is right there too for the smaller gigs with te F500). And the P just sings through the Streamliner and AE410. Two great tones and vibes that are totally different from one another.

I love having this combination. I always found my 60's type J as just a 'not as good sounding tone' as my ash/maples (pure IMO there... pure personal taste). The ash/maple P through that tubey rig is a totally different vibe to me, just as good but really different, and it is really is fun to switch between the two depending on the gig and the mood I'm in:bassist: Fun to have a relatively 'all tube' sounding vintage sounding rig, and IMO one of the best 'modern' sounding rigs, both weighing in the 60 pound range with cab and head... both one trip wonders that can knock a wall down!
