Genz-Benz Streamliner Part 6

some said here the UL410 would be the last cab they'd ever use with a Streamliner head. The mids are rather rare with this cab already and one gig I had a nightmare room and stodgy soundman on my @$$ about bringing down the bass of my 900+UL410+P5 at a new country music gig.

I had better results at a different blues room/blues band with the 900+UL410+ 55-02D, kept the gain button out. I'm still trying to get a good tone with my Skyline JoBo Jazz 5, stock passive, with any of my cabs. But I rarely use that bass to know how to tweak it best with this amp.

Gonna try the jazz with 212T cab at a restaurant/lounge gig tomorrow nite. Pics of the room look like its gonna be a thick sounding room. So as always I bring my F1 as backup in case I need to switch out amps quickly if I just can't tweak the 900 well enough. But I'm getting to know the 900 better and its been easier to tweak.

Yeppers. Maxxed, dimed, WFO. AND that is with my Bongo and it's monster preamp. It slays Les Paul's, Marshall's and guitar players with ego walls like buttah.:bassist:

Sounds soooooo good in the mix it's unreal.....still gives me goosebumps.

I usually keep my gain and volume at about 12 o'clock with the gain out for a touch of hair. I'll go 11 on the gain and 1 on the volume to clean it up a tad.

My advice is don't worry about where the dials are, shoot, tape over the tick marks, blindfold yourself...whatever. I'm going with what sounds good to me! I used to be way to hung up on not "straying from center". I've tried and tried to dial up a bad tone with this amp and just can't seem to do it.

Sorry fuzzbox....I know you didn't ask for all that but sometimes this amp makes me wanna get up on the mountain.:D

Two new Big Ass soundin machines in one month! Rock on man! For the record I boost at 600 to 3 0'clock but I have those 2 6nd whatchamacalits in my nearful that push mids and have to back off bass to10 o'clock cause of the 2 3015lf's so everyone's cab bass and strings will factor in. My long journey of buying every preamp/cab combination I could looking for a good strong pleasing mid to cut through the mix with out being to honky has finally slowed way down so Im having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that the SL sounds like a mid scooped head but still cuts through the mix,it just seems to me that any pre or amp that I have had to run part of the EQ maxed sounded off some how.
I run the OBP-3 pretty much flat on the 2 mid heavy basses that have and the EQ on my S9 is very close to flat,I will boost the bass and or treble depending upon which of my 3 cab combinations I run.

Eden 2x10xlt on top of a Trace Elliot 1518 (MY Favorite pair hands down)
My "perfect sound" is the Eden/Trace Elliot cabs driven by a modded SWR Grand Prix with the mids boosted on the EQ.
Sorry for the long explanation just trying to establish what I consider heavy mids and scooped.
So I still wonder if the Streamliner would do it for me??

Been having fun with mine all day today, trying out different basses. Turns out I like most basses at different settings, or for different vibes, so much variety in that sweet preamp and gain stage. As opposed to my old amp where I just ran it flat and eq'd just from the bass.

I had to make a spreadsheet to keep track of the settings in the end! :D

More to do tomorrow! :hyper:

No way to tell until you try it for yourself. I will say that alone it doesn't sound like it will cut, but in a mix I can hear every note clear as a bell. Also the eq curve lets me get pretty loud without covering up any other members of the band.

Soo reading this I thought: thats crazy. But I am also wary of the numbers. So I cranked the mids to 4:00 (600)and the bass to 9:00 treble to 2:00 gain to 2:30 and volume to noon. WOW.... these settings are not that far away from where I had it set, but what a dramatic difference. My Jazz bass sounds awesome!!! Super focused mids that aren't honky but, clear and focused. I cant wait for my jam session this weekend.

Well I posted on the first page of this thread (part 6) that I was going to order a Streamliner 600 and build a BFM Jack 210. I am replacing a Super Redhead that I have used for a long time. I have finally finished the Jack you can read more about it here. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/bfm-jack-210-build-765080/

I used the SL600 with a carvin 210 while I was building the Jack. With both cabs the SL600 sounds great. With the Carvin I had to roll the bass off and boost the mids (600). With the Jack I am only cutting the bass and boosting the mids a little as this cab has a strong mid range voicing. I haven't owned a tube amp in a long time and am really digging the over driven sounds. I do wish this amp had 2 channels because I find my self adjusting the eq a lot for different songs.

Great job-looks awesome.Im looking at the BFM's myself.Im guessing with all Ive read on them that the SL would sound great with it.

Just dropping in to say from earlier post, got many gigs in April/May. Last two gigs I used the STM-900 w/Neox 212T, really liking this combination more n more. I too used a mid-heavy bass, MTD KZ5 w/Bart pups, OBP-3 pre. I think that bass may have blown a tweeter in one of my RS210 cabs when I ran those two cabs stacked vert w/KZ5+900. I really had the hi-mids cranked on the bass as this room was so, so boomy. Is it even possible for mids to blow the tweeter?

Gig got quite loud later that nite and I was pushing the cabs hard. They sounded great throughout the nite but I kinda stopped hearing those strong high-mids in last set. I was turning up the treble knobs on bass and amp and I could tell the highs were gone from the top cab. I need to check it out here at home to be sure what happened, maybe my hearing just went for awhile. :hmm: Cab(s) still under warranty so we'll see what gives with that.

AND, I'm gonna gig the Skyline JoBo jazz 5 this coming Thursday at a Cinco De Mayo biker bar party. Orale! Can you say "leather-bra'd-beauties" HAHA. ;) I'm gonna try those suggested jazz settings I see above. Our guitarplayer really likes the Streamliner, I'm having mucho fun with it too. :bassist:
