I'm similar. A few clicks up from 150hz and a few clicks of boost. Bass up a few clicks or flat, depending on the box. Works! If I'm using a strange box, I can eq the crap out of it if need be with the 9.0

+1, although this is, of course, very dependent on the cab voicing. With the Shuttle 6, boosting the lowest mids was almost a requirement for that amp to perform down low to me. With the 9, it is a bit less of an issue with most cabs.

With your EpiUL cabs, +1, I also found myself boosting some low mids (regardless of the head I was using) in that 200hz or so range... bit of a hole down there. With my AE410, which is so even and powerful from the upper bass through low mids, but very bright in the upper mids, it is all about smoothing up top a touch, etc., etc.

With my little Thunderchild cab and the AE212, if anything, I tend to boost the upper mids due to those very smooth crossovers set lower than most that totally remove that 'upper mid bump' that so many neo loaded cabs have.

Just pointing out that EQ is VERY much based on cab voicing (and of course tone goal), and there are no 'one setting fixes all' in general.

I actually prefer the dual semi-parametric mids on the Max (and other) amps... you have it all with that, and cab matching to the voice of the amp becomes almost a zero issue.

IMO and IME!

With the ShuttleMAX 12 I engage the mid scoop and set the level around the 9:00 area.
Then I set the low mid freq around that 200-220 range and give the gain a few good clicks to the right and boost it.
High Mids are set around the 800 mark and pretty much everything else sits at the 12:00 position.
I found this works well for my tone goals with the Uber cabs. I am never lost in the mix......never!!

I am curious on the Streamliners clean tube sound......I am leaning towards the ShuttleMAX 9.2 though.
Cant wait to hear all the reviews once they get ito the hands of the pre sale folks!!

Yeah.. I see the 9.2 has the 3D module.. so im guessing it will make the 9.2 whump some!

I like to boost the low mids on Electric Bass but have to cut 150 Hz IIRC with my Upright so it is a tonal compramise when I'm Doubling.

My 51 P Bass is pretty mid heavy though, so I can make it work and my Tobias can take me anywhere.

With the AE212, I boost bass and mids 2-3 clicks, with the mid frequency around 8 o'clock. It's an ultra punchy and full tone. I have to run the tweeter around noon on this setting, which is higher than I normally run them, but it adds a sweet high end that just sounds perfect. All this creates a slight overall dip in the upper mids which really smooths out the aggressiveness of the cab just a touch.

I usually cut upper mids with my shuttle 6.0-12t combo, but I tried boosting some low mids last night and it sounded nice. I will have to do some more experimenting. I think generally it's better to cut than boost, but maybe not in this case.

Remember, these generalities may be affected by your choice of bass, pickups, cabinet(s), tone desires and playing styles.

Eq is a tool, it's there if you need it and for whatever you need it for. Each situation is different, but some of the choices that tend to cause the most difficulty in the "real world" are extreme boosting of the bass, and cutting of the mids. This is especially true on all amps with large ranges of cut and boost.

For aggressive slapping I do pretty well with all GB filters on :D. I'll switch the mid cut and HF filters off most of the time though. Is 9.0 eq. about flat and all GB filters on an example of extreme boost and cut to you? I'd be willing to try something else.

no...that wouldn't be extreme.

No, not at all. In fact, that works pretty well for some slap tones. I was talking about the eq controls, where folks familiar with typical passive tone controls turn things all the way up or down as a matter of habit.

From my experience with the Max 12.0, the Shuttle eq is quite responsive and just a click or two makes a noticeable difference. Everything on mine is either flat or just a couple clicks away - can't imagine full one way or another. I'd like to find out sometime how the Streamliner tone controls work and feel. The Max eq with dual semiparametric mids and adjustable filters is just stellar.

I heard it's like Mardi Gras in here. Is it true? :hiding:

I've been afraid to come in 'cause I sold my SVT-II knowing well that if I ever wanted that tone again, I would buy that amp. Well, I want that tone and more oomph delivering it. That said, I'm really afraid that I need this amp.
