I appreciate the depth of your reviews. You get right the point with the amps functions. Not talking 20 minutes and playing 2 minutes. Thats a great sounding amp for sure. I think that I would miss the lower, low mids of my shuttle 12.0 but, the top end is sweet on that amp!

The tweeter was on, right in the middle.

I uploaded the new fixed video, so go here, the old one has been taken down for the sake of me calling the amp by the right name!

New Streamliner 900 demo

Fantastic review ! For once, one could really hear the character of an amp by comparing it to a known reference, the way you did.

Since you now figuered out all the details of 1:1 video comparisons, can we give you a list of amps to compare ?
Would the eternal gratitude of the TB community be sufficient gratification ? :p :D

Pretty easy to just plug one head in and unplug the other in a clip... takes maybe 10 seconds:smug: Been doing it for over a year now. I will be A/Bing the RH450 and the Streamliner when mine arrives (my guess is, Friday with the weather), especially focusing on a low level of tube emulation of the RH450 and the 'slightly' pushed tone of the Streamliner (versus just pure clean and pure overdrive). I again, like what I hear so far!

Listened to Ed's clips comparing the Streamliner (SL) and Shuttlemax (SM) using my K702 monitor headphones. There's definitely a different personality to the SL.... sounds a bit smoother, warmer, rounder, and maybe a little more "squishy". The SM seems to have a more direct attack and has a more noticeable presence in the upper midrange which isn't there in the SL. The highs appear to be present in the SL, but smoother, not in a harsh way.

As for the distortion tones, I'll reserve judgment as it is tough to compare clips made by a different player with a different rig who probably has different preferences for distorted tones. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't take Ed's video to be the definitive authority on the amp's tonal potential... just what he dialed up and sounded good on that occasion. That said, it didn't sound buzzy to me, as others have said above.....

I wouldn't recommend keeping a tweeter on for an overdriven tone for that reason. If you want that "classic" tube amp overdirve, turn the tweeter off or have a second mic that is away from the tweeter.

+1 That is why quite a few are excited about this amp with the 15/6 cabs. Those two way cabs with the mid driver are perfect for an overdriven tone with that nice paper cone extension. I assume your quad cab with the tweeter turned way down would also kill with this head for those that want a bit of grunt and grind.

TC (RH450) kind of dealt with this issue by putting a lo pass set at around 5k in the inherent voicing of the amp. This results in even a two way cab with tweeter to sound quite 'paper cone' up top, and I've had pretty good luck with the overdriven tone with traditional 2 way cabs. The downside is that top end is cut off a bit even when it might sound good.

I was impressed with the impact of the the Streamliner treble control when Ed turned it down... it did have a bit more of a variable lo pass type vibe to it (like the Markbass VLE, which is also a great way to soften the upper freq's in a tweeter loaded cab to sound more 'one way' when pushing the grind).

Nice!

I think Ed does the best job of reviewing/demoing product of anyone I've seen. Granted, there's only so much you can do when it's heard online through little speakers, etc., but Ed does a great job of trying to show different settings and such - be it amps, effects or basses. You may or may not like what you hear and that's fine. I always want to go practice after I watch one, and I often can justify just about every product he demo's. Great job Ed.

OT: The snow. If you don't like it, maybe you should come up here. We've had a pretty easy winter. After today, the sub-zero temps should be done. To those who ask how we can live up here I have to ask today - how do you like living in "the south" these days.
