Genz Benz Streamliner Pt 7.....

It isn't with my rig:
My Flite 103W cabs are fairly close to flat response, and have a down-firing Eminence Beta 10, a 4" cone midrange, and a 1" horn tweeter. They sound great with the SL900 with the midrange and tweeter un-attenuated.
As a starting point in most rooms so far, I've run the EQ on the Streamliner at around 10 o'clock, 2 o'clock, and 12 o'clock with the mids at 600Hz. I run the gain and preamp volume around 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock when I want it to sound quicker and more transparent (usually for quieter, more acoustic stuff), and around 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock when I want it to sound fat and compressed.
My ATK has a second OEM pickup in the "mudbucker" position, and doesn't usually need any help from the amp when I want a bigger bottom end. The hippie sandwich bass has EMG P5's in it and no internal EQ. With that one, I have run the bass control on the Streamliner as high as about 2 o'clock for a really big, pillowy low end. Both basses are strung with D'Addario nickel rounds.

I find the wooley tube tone doesn't need a tweeter ........I really find the Streamliner versatile, what is unique is it's "flat" voicing........you are starting with this really awesome Tube like tone and going from there........I'm terrible with describing tone, I just know this is "the sound in my head"........

Got a second NEOX 112. Sold the shuttle 210T cab, which didnt sound too bad, but this is much fatter, fuller, warm and round.

After months of drooling over these amps I FINALY got to try one out. They had it plugged into an uber quad and right out of the gate I was disappointed. The resident bass tech came over and started fiddling with the settings, but it was just several different flavors of mediocrity. I told him that I plan on running it through an 810 sealed cab and he suggested we plug it into something similar. He set me up with the SL900 and a Hartke Hydrive 810. There it was, the warm, fat, yet articulate sound that everyone was talking about! It was clear and clean like my LMIII, just more .......... well, it was just more! It was fuller than what I was used to, and I loved it.
In the last five years I have been through several rigs, and it has taken me a while to find that I prefer sealed cabs. While the Genz cabs may be outstanding, I just couldn't like them. I would imagine that for those players going for an ultra clean tone they could get everything they every wanted out of the uber quad and a shuttle head, its just not for me. I myself love the JPJ/them crooked vultures old school rock tone, and the streamliner through a sealed multi 10 cab fits the bill.
The Question is no longer IF I will get one, but WHEN.

Streamliner sounds great with tweeter on. It's just that it does that "old school" tone so stinking good, that I keep my tweeter off.
Thats it, nothing extraordinary.
RE: Tweeters.
I'm actually in quite the opposite situation to most who replied about tweeters, before I got my Streamliner, I would under no circumstance have my tweeter turned on, never.
Now, with it, I can find plenty of use for one, and plenty for it off too, first time in years I've had use for it even.
Wanna go fat, old school or motown, turn that thang off.
Bright slap, chordy stuff, or to add clanky aggression, dial it up!
Definitely want it off if you're gonna throw a lot of dirt at it, or overdrive the preamp, too.

On my two NEOX 112 I am running the top tweeter at 50% and the bottom at around 5%. That way if i want to control the highs and brightness i do it with the preamp on the bass. i play vintage old school reggae/ska with a little growl added and like to have the brightness on tap if i need it.
New (well actually old) tubes in. The Sylvania 5751 seems to work very well in the V2 socket, it seems to tighten the bass and smoothen out highs a little more. It works well with both the vintage GE tubes and the Sylvanias that just arrived.
The Sylvania long plates have a very nice "old" feel to them. They have a little more give than the GE tubes. The 5751 tube in V1 with the longplates in V2 and V3 give the amp a nice warm sound. The bridge pickup sound with my jazz is awesome and my Rob Allen has a very "acoustic bass" vibe. Moving the 5751 into the V2 position (still using the long plates in V1 and V3) gives the STL a slightly more modern vibe, punchier bass/better slap feel. Some of the old feel still remains, particularly using the bridge pickup.
Not done experimenting yet, I'm going to grab another couple of tubes, one of them likely a 5814 as per Red Planet's suggestion. In the end I'll likely settle on a single configuration, but it's fun going through the process, and it's nice to know that the Streamliner can be "tuned".
By the way, is anybody running one of these through an Epifani UL2 410? I tried that out at the local music store last week and and was pretty impressed.

Any other thoughts with the Streamliner and AE410? Seems like bigger subs are better compliment than 410s.
