Genz Benz Streamliner Pt 7.....

Well I finally got my 900 after waiting almost a month due to a postal strike, and seriously: Very awesome warm, round, forgiving tone at my first rehearsal, actually seemed to slot in the mix much easier than my Shuttle 6.0.
It actually felt pretty inspiring tone-wise.
So far so good, got a gig Sat, we'll see.

just pulled the trigger here in Italy for a STM 900, without testing one first, but this is the norm for us because top notch gear is extremely rare in my country. I own a Thunderfunk TFB 550 B paired with two Berg AE210s stacked and I wanted to try a different kind of tone. You know, the TFB has that awesome midrange and quickness and supertight lows and super polite highs. Just desiring an alternetive stroke. I hope that i will not be disappointed. Sincerely, I play a lot of electro-acoustic things, very busy mixes, and I always crave for a full-bodied, warm, low-mid growly and articulate sound with my Thumb BO 4, Mayones Comodous 5, fender jazz bass. In the past I owned a Markbass stack (SA450 + 410) and hated it, too modern sounding to my ears, I hated those super glassy highs and the absence of heft to the notes (someone says it is hi-fi). Instead, I love my T-Funk for what it does. I will post a review as soon as I can test the STm 900 on a gig or a rehearsal. :bassist:

Welcome to the club boys. I have had my Stl 900 for a while now, probably 80+ gigs with it so far, and the best advice I can offer is to be patient while getting to know it better. It will take time for you to understand that all of the controls interact with one another almost like a musical instrument or a passive tone control knob. This head will reward those with the patience to explore its vast intereactive possibilities.

Man my STL killed it tonight. I raised my 212 avatar neo cab at ear level and the whole band couldn't stop talking about how full the room sounded. Bass at noon, mids at 3, 600hz, and treble at 1vol, master, and gain set flat. I'm really loving this head can't wait to throw a 2 x10 and see how it does at 900w!

Just curious, how'd you get your 212 cab up by your ears? Was your cab still standing vertical? I have a two gigs on a coming Saturday 12-4pm then a wedding 7-11pm that same evening, two different bands. The gigs just happen to be a few blocks away from each other but across town from my home, so I plan to stay in the area between gigs.

I usually use my Epi UL-410 and pre/pwer amp for that earlier outdoor gig but I'd like to travel light as possible. So I'm gonna try my 900 head & GB Neox 212T for both gigs, I can dolly it on one trip w/bass and amp faster than any of my other rigs. I do have a standard (basic) amp stand that we use to place our small powered mixer on. I've never used it for any of my cabs as they are kinda big for that I feel.

No PA support for me; not sure if OP had that or not. And did you percieve loss of lowend with cab that high?

Not sure I wanna lay that 212 cab across this stand with the ST900 on top, tho I could strap it down. Any other method to raise the 212 cab, still keeping it vertical. Not quite ear level high but more around waist level maybe? I know jimmym, no milk-crates. ;)

I am elevating my cabs (either a 2x12 or two 1x12) putting them on a Gramma pad and my wooden cable flight case (about 10").
Here's a link to the Invalid Link Removed
This eliminates low end rumble and keeps the lows tight.

If I need to raise a cab to waist height, I generally just use "Musos Best Friend" aka milk crates, with some black sheet over the top to disguise it. Been using the same ones for almost 30 years now ...

Quick question that I am sure has been discussed, but can you take a 1/4" from the FX send to the recording board post eq? Sound quality vs DI?

Yes, virtually the same BUT there's no way to eliminate any ground loop that may be present with an unbalanced connection. Your recording board needs to be able to handle line level unbalanced also. I suggest using the DI out, in post position.

I'm seriously considering the SL900. I like playing stuff like Deftones, Tool, Mudvayne. I have a Streamer LX 4. Would this amp cut it for that type of music?

I've read alot on these threads, and it seems that some people have problems cutting through the mix. I also see alot of Fender types being played through Streamliner. Maybe the Warwick sound could help cut through even more?

There are a couple of people that have a problem cutting through. You shouldnt have an issue paired with the right cab/cabs.

Just dont cut the mids too much and you will cut through.. I play in Pop bands, Southern Rock bands, and Loud rock stuff. I like to feel it in my chest... and I dont have any problems at all.. I cut !
