Genz Benz Streamliner Pt 7.....

I moved from the Thunderfunk to the LMII, and eventually to the F500, which gives me that mid present, tight, punchy, articulate 'space between the notes' sort of vibe that I still like very much in some contexts (the Genz Shuttle and Shuttlemax heads are also in this tonal universe).

But man, the Streamliner just sounds and feels like a big old tube head that happens to be able to stay clean and constant through its entire volume range.... fat, round, smooth, and a top end that really vibes a high quality all tube head (like the Sadowsky SA200) run clean to my ears.

Wow Ken, that description is giving me some serious GAS pains! I love my Walkabout, but it is about to go into the scout combo. I need to take one for a spin for my higher wattage needs. The SA200 is the best sounding amp I have ever plugged into, so if that is the vibe.....

I wasn't even in the market for a head!!!!

It definitely is not a typical hybrid. While it doesn't sound like the Walkabout, it is similarly voiced to mimic a sort of all tube thing, just a different all tube thing.

I have had very limited experience with the wonderful SA200 (I describe that as the only all tube head I don't hate:p), and the couple owners of the SA200 and Streamliner have posted in these threads that they both are at least somewhat similar (i.e., the ability to deliver, as posted above, that kind of 'studio tube tone when playing through a hi end tube mic preamp with tube compressor'.

I love the fact that I can dial in a relatively legitimate 'clean all tube tone' and then have that tone stay constant at all volume levels, only adding more warmth and grit and break-up if I choose to do so at various volume levels:hyper:

Edit: The tone controls and the mix of gain and secondary volume levels is also similarly complex and interactive like the SA200 and other all tube signal chains IMO and IME

I agree with you Ken. I'm 40, and In have spent almost 2/3 of my playing life with all tube amps, for bass and even guitar. I know what you mean when you try to describe the elusive rich harmonic tone of the STM, the woofy, fat and pillowy bottom and the chamaleontic highs (depending on the gain network settings, clean, silky, warm or grindy, with an eccentuated ringing of rounds and if you want, full british aggression). Not to mention the udible sort of "sag", the buttery initial part of the note attack (even without a full tube amp, solid state rectifier and so on...). But the miracle, in my personal opinion, is that this true tone comes in good company with a tri-dimensional gravity to the note and a wonderful articulation, separation note to note, precise and never lose attack. All this allows a soulful experience and a great participation of the player that can "track" and feel every nuance in playing.
As I said above...after first playing (new amp), very, very impressed. Waiting for a band setting test next week end.

The Streamliner works great in my band.. I posted a few pics of it in use on the previous page.. 19.

On this gig i need articulation ...for it is a sort of progressive band where i have to play some fast unison licks at times., but also rootsy so it needs to lay down a pillow at the same time when it grooves.. and the Streamliner does it well.
Not to mention its lightweight, since i back-line alot and fly with it... and all i need to do is flip the switch and its ready what ever country i am in.. fits right in my carry one. Im loving this amp...
And today im at home doing a pop gig, so it gets to do the super clean sparkly thing with a jazz bass and uber quad later on.. great amp!

My friend just sent this to me and i wanted to share it with yall...
from one of the gigs in France .. I thought the lighting was real good that night.. just a cool photo... I had a backline 810 with the streamliner

No.. I did not bring it this time.. We hit 5 countries in 10 days . it was a fly mission.. All i brought was the Streamliner just in case... In parts of Europe it is hard to get Genz gear on a rider right now.. Im working on it though...:smug:
Vari Show and Tangerine were the promoters and always had what was on the rider for us....
Pa and monitors as well as IEM were all great so far...

For Gear geeks, here is a pic i took of the PA stage left the other day. I thought you guys might like this. I know i do..:bassist::bassist:
It was all Crown power, fiber optic snakes, and digital consoles on FOH and monitor land ... which really helps when you sound check and then the opener goes on before you.. they get what they want too... which is good for all.. and then they recall our mix.. and my mix. well im a PITA until its set, then i never ask for anything again.;)

Stage Left PA. just a little taller than the 2 story concession on the right...

Yes im using the white LG5 90% of the time...

30 C is nicer than 104F.... or about 41C i think.. not so great with my C to F conversions. :)
You were talking 30C right? you are in winter though...

Hey guys. I can't believe the posts on this head! I was wondering for those that had the chance to test, how does the sl 600 or 900 compare to the GK MB fusion in sound? What few videos I heard of the SL900 it has the "closest all tube like" sound I heard. I always thought the shuttles had a great voice for tubey feel, but what I have heard on youtube, through my KRK rokits, to my ears, sounds really good.
