That was my concern too and reason for asking. Mine comes tomorrow. Anyone know the approximate depth off hand?

According to the specs on the stand's link the upper and lower arms are 12 inches. The 12-3 is 18 inches deep. So that's probably fine except the drivers and the array are all up front putting most of the weight beyond the 12 inches of the lower supporting arm. So I just went ahead and bought a second 12-3 to support my first 12-3. :)

I took some spare plywood I had and built a shelf/riser for my cabs. It now can hold my smallest cab, which it couldn’t before, and my larger cabs with more confidence. You can also just use it on the ground as a riser. I spray painted it black since, but you can kinda see it on the stand here before paint. Now that it’s black, it just blends in with my gear.

The version of the stand I have has 12 inch arms (actually a little shorter than that because it measures from the outside rather than inside) and 8 inch arms. Turning it so the 12 inch arms are at the bottom feels very stable to me. I have no concern about the cab tipping off.

There is a similar stand on Musicians Friend that claims to have a 15 inch arm... which might make some folk feel more secure although the cab would still overhang the arm

Nice. One question though; did you paint your wall to match the basses or buy basses that match your wall? :)

I wonder whether there might be a tiny difference in bass response due to the very small difference in volume of the cab... We did get the report that there is a difference between the STR and the SLT due to that difference. There is likely a larger difference in volume between the original and the SLT than between the original and the STR but still is a little given that the inset handle takes up some air space. All that said, whether it would be a difference any of us would notice is yet another issue or it may be such a small difference in volume as to make virtually no difference in the sound of the cab.

I do think the new handle is a nice change...

Hi Guys, Yes, the original BA12-3 (with strap handle) is no longer available. It is replaced by the BA12-3 STR (straight) version. The ONLY change is in the handle. There is no differences between the original and the new STR other than the handle. Once we introduced the BA12-3 SLT (slant) we new we needed to denote the difference between the SLT and a straight version, so thus the SLT and STR suffixes. I hope this helps. Thanks for the continued interest.

That is a much needed change and the only thing I would have changed on your arrays was the strap handle. The best keeps getting better.

I actually got one of the Gollihur versions of the Acoustic Array. I like it a whole lot with acoustic guitar. It sounds great even with my old inexpensive acoustic guitar.

On upright bass I'm a beginner so I can't offer an opinion. The rental upright I have doesn't have a pickup but I made a contraption to test a pickup I bought for a bass I'm having built, and it sounded good to me.

I did test the acoustic array with electric bass, and my thoughts on that is that for electric (guitar) bass it's best to go with the BA cabs and MG heads. I had some buzz on the amp section of the Acoustic Array when the volume was mid to loud. It sounded great, but some notes seemed to vibrate in resonance with some internal part. Mark Gollihur and Jeff were quick to help (amazing customer service), but my opinion is that for electric bass it's best to have a separate head you can put on an isolating foam pad or not on top of the cab.

No change in response. I doubt it would even be measurable.
