So am I the only one or...
Having the Genzler gear reminds me of when I used to be into hi-end audio. You couldn’t just add a very nice piece of equipment in or it would show (and often magnify) the limitations of your other gear or the source (ie: poorly produced music). The Genzler rig (MG800 and 12-3 cabs, now up to 3) really have helped with my technique, but made some of my basses sound pretty bad. I tried nickel strings (which I swore many years ago I hated) and that really bought out a lot of mids and detail that steel strings were lacking. All this is just me alone in my basement so far- just started working with some guys and have been cycling through gear to see what I want to go with, but next time I’m bringing the MG800 and 2x12-3’s (one str and one slt) because I am losing my mids and highs and clarity (they say I’ve sounded good, but I can’t hear anything above the middle of the E string). I should have just brought the Genzler stuff to begin with, but...
Anyways, another thing- anyone else have a bass with the Aguilar OBP-3 pre in it? I had 2, now just one, and the treble control does nothing with the BA cabs. It’s centered pretty high at 6.5khz, and sounds good through normal tweetered cabs, but I ordered a Bartolini 3 band to swap it with as it’s just not working for me. I normally like Aguilar stuff (and an amp and some cab of theirs in the roation behind the Genzler stuff), but to me this is another example of the Genzler stuff pulling back the curtain on something.
