Curious, as I know there has been a lot of talk about the quality of the DI on the MG800; how does it actually compare to something like a Radial JDI?

Thanks! Ive heard FOH guys describe it more like a Countryman. However, I have never used one or a JDI for that matter. Never had the need to.

JDI has been my go to for years. Great DI and from what I recall from other threads, the Genzler DI is very similar to it or a Countryman.

This little setup kills! This 112 is an absolute powerhouse, and the 350 has tone for days! I am so impressed with everything this setup has to offer.

I used to carry a Radial DI with me to use with a very noisy Markbass head DI. Since upgrading to a Genzler 800 the Radial DI has been placed in the "I used to use this" pile at home. The pile of gear that says "I really should put this on eBay" pile.

No need. The built-in Magellan DI out is quiet and sound guys swear by it.

But this rig....Damn. Channel B with Contour B at noon. EQ flat.

**EDIT**: Ended up with a teensy Bass boost and a teensy lower mid cut (mid freq at about 9:00). Treble remained flat. And we ended early so my pay rate/hour went up a little and I got home a little earlier. SUCH a killer little rig. (I still maintained my grumpy-a@@ mood, though. Very cool, as I’m planning on my MG-800 as a DI next weekend. I gave the audio/video Director a heads up and he has no problem with me using it. He said, after all, the guitars use Line-6 combo effects pads as DIs. Excited to hear it on stage...only wish they’d allow me to use my 2 BA-12-3 cabs. Only if they knew...

Thanks! Started it's life as a Shoreline Gold Skyline Scheff. I'm the original owner. I think it's a 2005 or 2006. Both the P and bridge J are closer to the bridge than a "normal" Fender. Electronics are Hanson single coil vintage J's and a vintage P and a Hanson preamp with two blends. Blends are between the two J's, and the two J's and the P. It's a versatile bass, for sure. I quite like it! It's been (one of) my main player(s) for over a dozen years.

When using the MG-800 as a DI, will I still be able to use all of the controls as I normally would when using it as a bass amp? Will it still produce 800W or is that and the controls bypassed when using it as a DI? I’m only asking so that I can be well informed and have answers for our soundboard engineer. Thanks!

If, and I say if, it works like my Shuttle 9.0, if you set it to post EQ then you keep all the controls. If pre EQ then it basically sends an unaffected signal to the board. That's how I understand these things but I could be wrong.

Yup! And blend them in any configuration. Ferinstance….I can solo any pickup, I can blend any pickup with another pickup. And the pickups are very well balanced: I can blend my brains out and not have to adjust my overall volume. It really is a limitless combination of tones just from the two blends. I don't really use the EQ that much at all.

My default setting is neck J pickup off, and the blend between the P and bridge J just baaaaarely favoring the bridge J. Punchy but still thick and warm. I really like the Hanson pickups.

My only complaints about the bass are thus: I feel the Hanson preamp is a little too "bass heavy", and the weight of the bass is just over 9 lbs which is right at my limit and has me keeping my ol' man back in good shape. The bass balances really well, though, which helps the back out.

And, of course, the bass sounds incredible through my Genzler rig!! (Had to get back on topic. )

The Genzler stuff I use (MG800 and 10-2 cabs) are SUCH a relief for my ol' man back. I can use one cab for cocktail hour stuff or monitoring myself, and two has proven to be more than enough for any show I do, indoor or outdoor. For the louder/outdoor stuff I do, two 10-2's is more than enough as there is PA support and all I need to do is hear myself.

I REALLY am a fan of the 10-2 cab. Light, loud, punchy and crystal clear tone without being sterile. Two 10-2's has this beautiful full-and-punchy low end that is addictive as heck.

And three 10-2's?? Fuggedabowdit.

FYI, the PRE setting also skips your gain knob, which can result in some pretty significant volume changes if you happen to have your gain really high or low.

FYI---the amplifier will not be delivering power output if you don't have speakers attached. Also, there is no concerns about running your MG-800 without a speaker connected.
