Genzler Amplification Club

I got to play with my original band last night that has been on a bit of a hiatus due to band member health issues and had a blast with some real knob fiddling for the first time. The EQ stayed the same throughout as my Avatar neo b210 really likes the bass at 1 o'clock, mids at 1, freq at 11 and treble at noon but I really got into playing with the Contours and the Clean/Drive channels. Never got a bad tone. Nothing too extreme but this puppy is so versatile. I played with the Clean channel using both Contours (Note: I never go past 12 on either contour) and used the Drive channel more than I have ever with both Contours. Even tweaked the amount of drive to about 1 o'clock which tightens up the low end.
I play a Valenti PJ with a Sadowsky preamp and was changing the tone of the bass as well to work with the different settings. I used the P pup solo'ed, blended about 3/4 to the P, straight up and then used the back pickup with about 1/3 dialed and then 2/3 dialed. It was ridiculous how versatile it was and again was reminded how well it plays with effects. I was using an OC-2, a Corona Chorus and Malekko Diabolik.
This amp rules.

So

So a growing list of additional Bass Array models would be a 15" version and a 2x12" version as far as what I'm hearing?
Hmmmm....
As the BASS ARRAY concept is a completely balanced system and component impedanceso can get tricky this may not lend itself to what might seem like an obvious extension of the line. We're always listening.

YES, I think a 2X12 version should be next, 8 ohms of course.

How does the Magellan compare tone-wise to the GenzBenz Shuttle 6.2?
I never had a 6.2, just the 6, as well as a Shuttlemax 9.0 and a Streamliner 900 but I can say the Magellan will be thicker, bigger and better than the 6.2. The Magellan sits somewhere between the shuttle and Streamliner. It's thicker than the Shuttlemax. More defined mids than the Streamliner. Easier to dial in a great tone than either of them. Super versatile as well. Clean, gritty, modern, vintage.

I suspect that a 4 ohm 212 might make more sense for more people since the SPL should be ~Plenty~ for most bassists.
I would think Genzler wants to stay as lean as possible for a while.
You need more than ~Plenty~ SPL, just add another 8 ohm cab (BA112-3 or BA210-3).

Some don"t like mismatching cab ohms. I would like the option of adding other cabs for 800 watts as many Genzler users have done already. I think a 212-3 at 8 ohms would suffice for people wanting only 1 cab. It seems to me they would sell more cabs at 8 ohms.

A 4-ohm 212 and an 8-ohm 112 aren't a mismatch, they're a perfect match. Used together, all 3 speakers in that setup would receive the same amount of power from the amp. Plus, the MG is capable of a 2.67-ohm load so that setup is perfect for use with the Genzler amp.

I was thinking of other all tube amps as well. I'm sure the people with multiple 112 cabs are happy it's 8 ohms and not 4 and the company probably likes selling more cabs.

I'm not sure I'm following where you're going. Even with a tube amp, as long as it can handle less than 4-ohms, keeping the 112s at 8 and the 212s at 4 ensures consistency among all the drivers, regardless of which cab configuration you choose. I was under the impression that most, if not all, tube amps can down to 2 ohms, so I'm not understanding the issue.

Now, if you're wanting to use these with a standard, solid state or hybrid amp that only goes down to 4 ohms and still use more than 2 12s, I could understand the desire for an 8-ohm 212.

From the Ampeg Manual.

ALWAYS
match the amplifier’s speaker output impedance to the impedance of the speaker
that is being used.
Use only one type impedance output at a time. If more than one speaker is
connected at the same time, make sure they all have the same impedance rating.
Never use
two or more cabinets with different impedance ratings. This will create an unbalanced load.
When using multiple speaker cabinets (with the same impedance rating), match the total load
impedance of the speaker cabinets to the speaker output of the amplifier.

Just talking in general terms, an 8 ohm 2x12 cabinet seems like a miss-match power-wise to most bass amps. I would expect that your average player would be looking for this type of cab to be their single cab rig and thus would want the most power from their amp in order to drive it most efficiently --- thus a 4 ohm impedance. We made various 2x12 cab designs over the years and very rarely have we had the request for 8 ohm versions.
Just my 2 cents...

Let me be the first to request an 8 ohm. :hyper:
Or a 2 ohm amp. I know I'm being difficult.

I simply don't understand the logic behind this. It makes sense if you're using two identical cabs that the impedance should match. Mixing a 4-ohm 2x10 and an 8-ohm 2x10 would result in the 4-ohm speaker getting most of the power and overwhelming the 8-ohm box.

But that simply isn't the case with the Genzler cabs. Mismatching impedances on the 112 and 212 ensure that each 12" speaker in the setup sees the same amount of power when they're all used together. All 3 12s have an 8-ohm load and it's no different than using 3 seperate 8-ohm 112 cabs.

Here is what I've got coming my way. Well except for 1 of the 3 cabs. I found a gentleman that had these in his practice room and have never left the house to be gigged. So i traded my Mesa D-800 and cash for the Genzler head and 2 of the array cabs and protective covers. I will in a few weeks purchase the 3rd cab when I save up a little more. I'm sure excited to see what these cabs sound like. View attachment 910703
Hey... if you don't mind me asking... what type of board is that you have beneath that sweet Genzler Cab?

That was the picture from the owner before I tool delivery of the Genzler stack. I'm not sure what he had underneath it but I would like to get one for myself. I will reach out to him and see what it was.
Awesome! Please let me know if you come up with any info! I feel so left out being stuck with my STM900... through my 8x10... ;) I want go get this new Genzler set up like yesterday!

It's an Auralex Acoustics Gramma Pad. I have a couple and they're great for taming hollow stages.

Thank you so much! I'm putting it on my list! Right now though... I only have the 8x10... a back breaker... but sure does fill out any hollow stage it seems! But I am really thinking that I want to scale down the size with one or two of these new cabs... and it seems to me... there will be no sacrifice in fillin the air with groovy goodness! lol Thanks again!
