has anyone used it with upright? another reason i'm reluctant to let go of my MB head is how well it can double for upright. either way i'll drop a full report once i feel ive put it through its paces.

I believe Ed Friedland, the bass whisperer, is using it on upright and electric on his current gig. It took over as his #1 amp the SM 9.2.

This is correct. Ed is using it live with The Mavericks and for his studio work. He loves it, so he reports.

I have a SM9.2 I have used it for years!! I am finding the Magellan has more Chutzpah .. that's west brooklyn for Guts, girth and boldness.. ... All kidding aside the MG800 is fast and punchy.. and has GIRTH..... I used it on my local gig last night playing classics . Im heading out on a few shows starting today with Lance Lopez..He is a TONE monster... Its a LOUD aggressive gig.. Next month we have shows with Billy Gibbons from ZZ and Steve Lukather on guitar too. It will be me against 3 guitar players ... ha
I LOVE that the amp is Solid State thru and thru.. It makes for quik speedy delivery..

This has been discussed a few times since the Bass Array design was first introduced. My thought is that the depth of the LF response from the BA12-3 is so good that it's hard to see what the benefit might be with a 15" version. Certainly there would be a 15" "flavor" to the tone. I'm not saying never but....

@Jeff Genzler, if you did do a BA15-3, would you do five 3's? Or would an odd number of 3's create an ohm issue?
Or would a BA153 with four 3's and a redesign of the 3's front mount be better?
I ask because it gives an idea if we might see this.

I'm a 15" guy for the most part. But I gotta say the Genz-Benz NX2 212T sounds awesome. It'd be tough to part with it.

As the BASS ARRAY concept is a completely balanced system and component impedanceso can get tricky this may not lend itself to what might seem like an obvious extension of the line. We're always listening.

The Magellan 800 with my Vanderkley 410LNT is really impressing at the moment. I have played a couple of events without P/A support recently and this rig really fills out the sound. Every note feels effortless and HUGE.
Contour 2 with a little bass boost works great for a Fat finger style tone, kind of like a more balanced Streamliner setting

The 10's are staggered just a bit to alleviate some of the comb filtering.
I have to say the thought of a modular BA|6-10|12-3 gives me goose-bumps!

After hearing comments by people who've experienced the BA210-3, I really think a pair would go Plenty loud for what I need (at least, so far)!
Several years back, a band I was in did an outdoor 4th of July gig where I wasn't in the PA (1600W and a very efficient cab ~sort of~ covered it, but it was definitely pushing the laws of physics) - something like that might require three of these, but I don't see myself doing that again.

To follow up on the questions about how the Bass Array cabs handle distorted tones, this is one place where the small paper cone drivers are exceptional in their clarity and smoothness. They reproduce these heavily distorted signals even better than a guitar speaker might because of their size and the array design. So many times these tones can feel like they're "stuck in the box" in the bass instrument world and with the Bass Array design the definition and harmonic content are very detailed, natural and projected forward.
Using a compression tweeter in a more conventional design can be like finger-nails on a chalk board under these conditions.

I think part of the reason the 210 is more horizontal is they want the 3" driver arrays to be close enough together when stacked to couple well.
Don't think that'd be happening with the 10" drivers more vertical.

I had some bigger out of town dates.. I just got home..
I ran my Magellan 800 and my older Genz Uber 115 x 2 with my AC custom P bass with fresh round wounds. I turn the Tweeters OFF for this particular gig..... and let the amp and cab do its thing..
I didn't need my 3rd cab.. So i ran it at 4 Ω..
I like tweeters for Pop gigs or country gigs that i play but this particular gig is very high energy pretty hard rock gig with some name players.. I'm so blessed to do this tour with them..
The Synergy that i had going with the bass, the magellan and cabs just nailed it. I wasn't even looking for what i wound up finding.. . Can't explain it but it inspired me ....
Anyone that may think for a second that this new run of class D amp can't do a aggressive (ala ZZ, Mountain, Cream ) hard rock blues type gig is mistaking. The MG800 and Uber 115s slammed. I hope i can repeat that synergy again. Was it Just one of those run of dates ? or is this repeatable?

Also, The amp passed the heat test without failure. I was going to use 3 cabs but i found i didn't really need it..
I ran it at 4 Ω but we sound checked for an hour in almost 100 degree humid TX, LA border 1PM baking sun HEAT.. Amp just sounded fantastic. Showtime was 8 PM. a whole lot cooler then.
