I beg to differ as I find Contour B useful. I do not understand the comment about "low end loss". Do you mean compared to Contour A which is the classic "smiley face" EQ? If you are using Contour A and bass boost then you like are running with a lot of low-end energy.

I find Contour B warms up "HiFi" speakers. The effect is subtle but it gives my Barefaced Super Compact a bit more of a vintage sound when it is needed.

About Contour B---it does integrate a higher HPF which tapers the ultra lows and the filter adds a low midst bumble which you should feel thickening of the lows and low mids. Some say it provides the feel of a sealed cabinet.
The more you increase the Contour control the higher the HPF is set.
Also with Contour B is a HF roll off as well. This is your vintage vibe filter but adding EQ to this B Contour does offer limitless possibilities.

I had an early version of yours back in the 80s. .One of the Punchiest and most clear basses that i ever played in a rock setting .. I LOVE spector basses..

I actually planned on adding the 112 to the 212 initially, but the 212 is more than capable of delivering all the volume I need for the places I play. It's a very loud and efficient cab. The 112 would be purely for modularity as I can't envision when I would ever need 3 12s for my gigging situations. Though, I guess that could always change.

I no longer have the Spector, but it was probably the nicest bass I've ever owned. Like you said, tons of punch and clarity, not to mention how beautiful it is. Unfortunately, I just had to give up on the NS body shape ever being comfortable for me. I've tried to like it so many times. I love the tone and the body itself is very comfortable. But, the reach is too much for my T-Rex arms to handle. I am most comfortable on traditional body shapes (Fender and EBMM) and that is all I play now.

Right, I understand now about the low end loss. I set up for a flat, clear sound and do not have much going on in the ultra-lows so I had not noticed the higher HPF.

got to use my magellan more yesterday -

i've warmed up to it. i think my initial impressions were skewed having used one amp (happily) for so long.

i started setting the parametric and mid cut both to 10 o'clock. i think this is a real sweet spot and a game changer for me. the amp completely seems to open up and let my basses do the talking when its set this way. i've also boosted the bass and cut the treble a bit, as well as introduce just a little of the blue contour. once i found these settings i basically forgot i was testing a new amp and just found myself playing and enjoying this rejuvinated bass sound of mine.

this amp sounds very tube-like to my ears. theres a natrual, clean, organic vibe to it that i've never heard before. i love that the boosted lows get thick and shake the floor but are in no way muddy or boomy.

i also had great results playing upright through it. it would be nice to have a high pass filter to tame the feedback, but it works great without one too. i was EQing totally differently but i don't recall what settings i ended up with. i was really, really blown away with how natural the arco sound was. the pizz sound was full and natural sounding and definitely retained the character of my instrument.

for now, this amp is taking the place of my long beloved markbass head. i don't see anything it cant do, or any reason i'd need another head. i can't wait for a chance to switch to 2.67 ohms, too!

as always, after more gigs rehearsals and recordings i'll post more thoughts if i have them. very happy for now.

I'm guessing I played 3 sets with 2.67 selected through a 4 ohm speaker load. It worked but did I, or could I have screwed something up?

Hello Bassdudepat---Thank you for your purchase of our MG-800. I see you're in Austin. Did you purchase from South Austin Music? Great guys there and have been there for a long time.

Regarding your question, you did not damage your amp at all by running a 4 ohm load with the amp impedance switch in the 2.67 position. This switch is there to optimize the performance of the amplifier for the impedance load --- so the only thing you would have experienced was a different available power level and perhaps some premature limiting of the output power. Frankly, this amp's design is so robust I doubt you would have noticed a thing.
So, no worries about your new amp.

Thats approx how i sey my magellan.. . It really sounds full and clear thru my 15 cabs like that.... On my 210 im still messing around.. But i am finding this amp is not a one trick pony.. It can do a few very specific genres, very well.. AND it's very easy to dial in.
This is the first amp that i can actually use a little bit of the contour and have it sound good without losing specific note punch or getting too scoopy.

I haven't even used contour B yet. Still digging the hell out of the contour A scooped sound. Love how it gradually goes from very subtle to more full-on over the full range of the pot. I also boost the low mids in the EQ a bit, so I get some of the low mid boost found in contour B at the same time. Really impressed with the Magellan, and I've owned 4 different class D amps. I plan on keeping this as my main amp for a very long time. My amp acquisition syndrome is finally cured!

One thing I've liked about all of Jeff's amps is that the volume & gain controls work all the way round.
My Super Bassman's master volume is the same. If you ARE used to (eg) Mark Bass type volume knob taper. ..it does take a lil getting used to. But I find it very nice to know that halfway on the control is "about" halfway of yr power.
I'm liking the Magellan more n more as I use it.
But no gigs this weekend so we're at a friend's shack. ...
