Ha! I posted that question just a few days short of 4 years ago! How could that much time have gone by so quickly (although I'm glad 2020 is behind us!)? Now that I have the BA10-2 and MG12T-V side by side, I agree that the BA is a bit more transparent but for a woofer/tweeter cab the MG12T-V is quite clear and smooth. The differences are more subtle than I imagined and both sound stellar. I think I would be happy with any of Jeff's products.

I went with the 12 because of the sound (like you said, either is amazing) and the form. I like that it's taller. I like reaching the controls on the amp a little easier. And I think the 12 is easier to carry around. My colleagues seemed to prefer the 12 as well. I also kind of like the "old school" vibe (I hate that term but I can't think of a better one) it gives and that it "takes a little of the edge" off my very modern basses.

I am happy to get my first gig (2 shows) of the year next Saturday! It’s an 1100 seat Theater but, they limited seating to 125 due to COVID. So, we will do (2) 90 min. shows at 5pm & 8pm to two different crowds.

Thinking of bringing the BA15-3/BA210-3 SLTs for this one. I’ll post up some pics next Saturday. Bring on 2021 & more gigs! This boy is ready!:cool:

You know, I've paid a lot of attention to the sonic differences between the MG12T-V and the BA10-2 (which aren't as pronounced as I imagined they would be), but the ergonomics of the MG12T-V are a big plus. For just a couple more pounds you get a pretty good bump in volume and low end. And I agree with others that the 12 is as easy or maybe even easier to carry than the 10. Lastly, the vertical orientation of the 12 is a plus. Like you said, the amp controls are a bit closer to you and so is the sound of the cab. And a vertical stack of two of the 12s would be all I would need for any situation I might find myself in. Then again, the clear smooth tone of the 10 is something to behold...

So clearly what you are saying is that everyone needs at least two of each style :D
and of course we haven't even factored in either BA12-3...

Well well well, guess what showed up in good ole Toronto today.... Yes my new BA15-3. All I can say is WOWzers! I thought my BA12-3SLT and my STR together were amazing. The 15 is the FULL package. The depth and breath is exactly what my ear wants. I set it up in my new practice room and all I can say is lets kick this Covid crap to the curb so I can start gigging again. I truly recommend this cab to anyone that wants to add to their BA12 rig (Talking at you @Loring !) Of course having a couple of Sadowsky's to play with certainly adds to the bliss and when I plugged in the 12 on top - KAPOW!!! Amazing rig!. Now I have to go and get my other BA12 cab which is at a friends house for the full tower of power.

Can’t wait to compare it to my Streamliner 900. Only one can stay, but I’m very interested in the second channel. I sold off my pedalboard to go back to just an amp setup. The two channels are the main draw to the Magellan. With my needs barely reaching into overdrive territory, I imagine I will only be in the 9-12 o’clock range on the gain knob. Another big comparison for me, as I do direct mostly, will be the DI out and how it compares to the Streamliner. Looking forward to getting it. Initial tracking shows it arriving from NY next Saturday.

Ok - I finally did my IR. First one so let me know how it works out for you.

I moved An AKG 2035 around until my headphones sounded the same as my ears in the room (or as near to it). It ended up about 10" (250mm) from the grill and off axis from the array about the middle of the 12" cone.

I chose the 2035 for this because it has a relatively flat and wide response and didn't want to colour it much. And I don't have an AE20...

This was done in Logic Pro X using the impulse response utility. It works and sounds good in logic. I have no idea if this can be imported to other uses (hopefully IR's on DG stuff or the CAB).

At any rate here is a link to the file.



Now when I record directly into my DAW (Logic) from my magellan 800 post eq - and use the impulse response it can sound the same as my amp in the room - without having to mic or make noise when the fam is sleeping!

its more overdrive than distortion...
It will attenuate the lows a bit but it is more like preamp tube overdrive - adds harmonic content does take a bit of the low lows out and probably boosts hi mids a bit.

If you are looking for a distortion type sound with blended in dry signal like a b3k or mbd2 - this isn't it...

Having said that - it is very musical and touch responsive - so I quite like it for a bit of hair.

Thank you for this, looking forward to trying! I just stopped in randomly and happened to see your post. I've been telling Jeff for 3 years that he should make and supply Genzler cab IRs to players and ideally MI companies for possible inclusion in multi effects for that very reason - to have your Genzler rig sound when you're playing and recording completely in the box, which indisputably is happening more and more industry-wide and is obviously trending that way. Looking forward to giving it a shot :)

I've been checking the facebook page and website daily to see what they announce. Haven't seen anything yet.

I have started preliminary testing of the Magellan 800 though. Spent maybe 10 minutes with it today. Looking forward to much more time comparing it and my Streamliner 900.
