Genzler Amplification Club

Doing a musical! Like.....A real gig kinda musical. You know, where an exchange of monies is involved??

Genzler kicking arse. I’m using a HX Stomp straight into the Return of the Genzler bypassing the Input.

A lot of praise is healed upon Genzler amps, and for good reason. But I don’t see a lot of comments about how great the power section is on these amps. It’s full and clear and quick with heaps of heft behind each note.

I have a pair of 1288's that I picked up when they first came out. I don't think I will ever part with them. Good luck with your search!

OK, I recently did the last indoor show for a while, since the Oregon county that I'm in has shut down indoor dining and music venues for a while due to Covid.

I used the MG350/112T-V combo and it ruled the venue. In addition to me on bass, the band included an amplified acoustic guitarist, a female lead vocalist and a guitarist that switched between electric and pedal steel. All four voices went through the PA.

@SteveC really nailed it when he described the capabilities of this combo. I still had plenty of volume on tap that I didn't need. And, I didn't touch the EQ. I used an active 4-string Fender Jazz, no on board boost or cut, everything at noon on the MG350 with no contour. Just perfect!

This past weekend was good times! Played both nights to packed bars. I've got new basses on order, I canceled my Neural DSP Quad Cortex order, because my Helix is just smokin', and I keep trying different strings, hoping to find some "magic" thing. The one thing that stays constant, is my cabs...

The BA-410/BA210 rig just keeps on giving, no matter what I run thru it! Those cabs just KILL! Can't think of anything that could displace these cabs, I really LOVE 'em! Thanks for the AWESOME cabs @Jeff Genzler!
(The last statement could be rendered null and void if a BA-212 ever materialized...Jus' sayin')

And if there were a tasteful drummer you would have still had enough. I don’t begrudge anyone their big rig, but inside and out, that little combo just works. It’s 26 pounds and carry’s in one hand. I would have to have my socks completely blown away by some other brand (and there are a couple contenders) before I’d switch. And I’d have to be in a pretty loud band without FOH support before I’d want to haul around much more. I love this little combo.

The combo hasn't stood the test of playing with a drummer, but I agree. With the unused amount of volume I had on tap, the combo would have no problem dealing with a tasteful drummer. And if needed, I would have no problem adding a second cabinet.

I occasionally sniff around at other brands, not seriously, but a quick comparison of pros and cons dissipates any desire to try something else.

I have played with a drummer - jazz gig - both inside a medium venue and outside at a farmer's market and with a singer/songwriter outside at a winery. Never pushed the amp at all. And like you said, a 2nd cab stacked looks and would sound awesome.

Speaking of "sniffing around at other brands," curious to know what brand of amp and speaker you all would gravitate to if Genzler gear did not exist. There are so many to choose from it will be interesting to see if we'd land on a similar brand or if, like fish in the ocean, there are so many it would be all over the place.

For me I'd probably lean to another high quality, modern design that was light, loud and looked good. Maybe Barefaced cabs? Darkglass heads? Or the brand that Ed Friedland has been talking about, GR Bass?

BTW, I have dabbled in the dark arts of Phil Jones cabs mostly because it was there and I was 5" driver curious. But as a main rig, I don't think it would be my first choice.

I'll be interested to hear some comparisons between the NU112-T and the MG112T-V. The 212T is pretty impressive at only 44 pounds. The choices are many and all good flavors I'm sure!
