Dirt pedals are a weird thing, they are all unique and probably are as dependant on the bass you are using as much as anything.

I have accumulated several over the years but use none live, except for one song where I manage with the 2nd channel of the Genzler MG-800. I relatively recently plugged them all together so I could A/B them and I got rid of a few. The ones that I keep on coming back to are the Darkglass Vintage Microtubes and the SansAmp Bass Driver DI.

I guess one thing you might want to ask yourself is do you need that versatility? If your "always on" pedal gets you the sound you want, won't you just be changing it out for another of the same?

That thought has crossed my mind. I guess I was thinking that there is a little more “tweakability” with the volumes and filters and stuff to really dial in a good always on tone. But as you say, no one is complaining about it and actually saying how great it sounds, so maybe it’s better to leave it alone.

I too keep coming back to DG. I have a shelf full of pedals from various makers but these just stand out. I'll be ordering a four on the floor soon, I actually hope it'll send 3 of my currents to the shelf. I want simplicity.

The problem (and a good one to have) is the 4-OTF has so many great tones in each of the 4 gears. It’s hard to decide on that always on tone.

I’ve been tweaking all week and can’t settle on one. I’m playing a decent size theater on Friday and will see how it goes with the 4-OTF live once again.

This pedal is so much fun!!!

I'm really excited to try it. In all honesty... all I need is my MG800... It's insanely versatile. 99% of my pedals may have a user but it's a one time use.

Without a doubt. Used to have a muff - great for what it does but way more control to sculpt your sound with the 4OTF.

I'll admit, when I saw the release of the 4 On The Floor, I thought "Oooh, that looks nice!", but I have the few dirt sounds that I think I will ever use and my bands are all clean stuff, so...

Just curious to those of you that use dirt pedals, what kind-of bass sound do find works best with them? I always find that a P-Bass (or single neck position pickup) always sounds the best.

have to say it depends - going for a Chris squire sound - both pups. Going for a Geezer sound - definitely neck pup. I haven’t soloed the bridge pups yet but so far there is a ton and I mean a ton of versatility in this pedal - I wish it had presets …!

Second practice today with the band since…forever? Just used one of the st12-3 and the MG800. So much fun to play again, and really enjoying getting to open up the amp some. What was great was we needed a refresher on some tunes. Just pulled out the iPod and plugged it in the aux and listened to them that way. Super cool. I think these cabs could work as PA speakers haha they’re so clear.

Well, the line array design is kind of a PA thing so it makes sense at some level.

I cant really recall all the details, as this was 3 years ago, but I have used a pair of BA12- 3’s as a FOH setup in an emergency. It worked. And ran bass through them too. If the same Array was on a stick above the cab, with a few smaller drivers added to extend the frequency response, it wouldn’t be that far off from a modern array FOH setup.

Let the FOH guys get their own cabs. I’m keeping my Bass-Arrays for myself!!!

But, sure a BA15-3 with a BA12-3 and a BA10-3 on each side of the stage…that would work!

I was messing around the other day and tried this array set up. The sound was astonishingly good.


It’s a BA12-3, BA10-2, and a Trace 2x8.
