Genzler Amplification ! New Genz Benz ?

I got to try the magellan mg-212t for a short while tonight. It pairs very well with the magellan 800 head, of course. I think that it is an improvement over the older genz 212t. The construction is much better, the low end is more controlled and the flatter mids and top of the 12pr300 is smoother than the old eminence driver, which makes it very eq'able. I'm not a tweeter guy but, this one isn't too bad. The cab is fairly efficient too. It will definitely handle most gigs in its own. Hopefully I'll have more time this week to try it with my other amps. I don't think that it's better than my other favorite cabs but, it has its own thing going on and, I like it.

i may look into one of those.. how does it compare to the BE S15 pair

Nice to hear your initial comments. You're absolutely spot on regarding the "more controlled low end and flatter mids" of the Magellan-212T. The Faital 12" driver we use is unique in that it uses a fiber glass former and the coil windings are wound on the inside and outside of the former. The are many benefits from this one of which is a "mellower", less mid peaky in the 2-3K Hz range. This midrange smoothness is quite audible and is different than many drivers used in bass cabs today.
Not that it sounds "scooped". I like to describe it as having a "throaty" mid, not too aggressive but authoritative.

Very different. Both great. The bags just sound great for electric bass. Very little or no eq needed. I still don't like rear porting. The mg212t with tweet off extends about the same up top but, the bottom is flatter and goes deeper which, sounds great below low E. They sound a little like svt210av cabs with real bottom.

I looked into the ports with a light and have to say that I love the bracing. Much better! The insulation used for dampening is better for contolled bottom as well. I'm assuming that the round and triangle ports are of the same volume? Just curious, kind of a nerd thing. I prefer these recessed side handles to straps or flip outs. The off axis response is better than the bags but, that's a 12 vs 15 thing.

Im liking what you describe.. My friend has an older Genz Neox 212.. I borrowed it and played it on a few local gigs.. It was great..And for a 212 it filled the room .. .. It seems this MG takes that to another level..

I've found the MG212T to sound and generally be all-around very similar to the Genz Benz NeoX2 212T. They have many more similarities than differences, but to my ears the MG212T sounds slightly more polite; less aggressive. This is probably in the range that Jeff mentions a couple posts above - that would make sense to me after playing them both side by side for a while. Both really excellent cabs, though, and capable of being very loud. Certainly competitive with (and superior to, in my opinion) a loud 4x10.

A point that I've brought up a few times is that a cab that sounds more exciting at lower volumes can be annoying at gig volume. Therefore, my favorite cabs have tended to be a bit mellow at home but, can really open up at a gig. This cab definitely comes to life with a little high pass and loud volume. Turn the tweet off, boost treble, rock n roll.

Played for awhile and came to the same conclusions. The bag ends really have my kind of tone baked right in so, nothing has changed there. When going back and forth between them and the genzler, I love the mid punch and growl of the bags, but find myself missing the More full bottom of the genzler. No cab has it all, for everyone. I also ran both with my large faital horn. Both sounded great and the horn added a lot of clarity and dispersion.

I just discovered my local shop is a Genzler dealer, and I got to put a magellan through it's paces yesterday (into a 12-3 cab). Really a phenomenal small rig. I'm running a GK MB/Neo set up, and maybe not enough improvement to make me take the resale hit on that to switch over, but the head is probably the most versatile I've ever played. I'm sure you guys already know this, of course, but I was pretty excited.

That's what I first thought when I got my LDS 2126 cabinet, that it was a bit mellow, for lack of a better term, when I played with it alone, but man did it sound fantastic in a band setting.

I've shown it before, I've said it before:

Can't get enough of this at the moment, a match made in heaven. Last night was particularly good because the cabs were a "little" higher, and I felt like I was immersed in sound (3D sound, anyone?). Lovely.

The only improvement I see is getting a third cab.

I'm sure that is a great feeling and should be enjoyed. But, while we toil away in developing our latest products, we hope to crush that!
