I understand what you are saying. Programmers today don't have to write efficient code, they have to write code quickly. The development process is painful with a lot of iterations between testers and developers.

On the other hand, people buy computers, phones, and pads for status. Many go for the highest end models to impress others. They may not need all the disk space or memory. Then they upgrade often. The need to have the latest phone to take selfies with is nuts. The prices for these devices is even more nuts.

And today visited with my (former) physical therapists. Voluntarily. And admitting I wondered if I am exhibiting Stockholm Syndrome.

It's been a full year since they released me from their tender care. :eek: But Sandy wasn't there and I promised to return for another visit. And my therapists all very interested in how I'm doing, and "you're always welcome here" so I tells them

Hey you know I may be back next month because it sure looks like arthritis in my ankle.

Fifty watts. Within the expanse of TB, it appears 50 watts is amp chump change for most. Personally I'm way happy to accept a 50 watt tube amp (put it on the cuff). Does anyone (apart from me) even say "put it on the cuff" any more? Does anyone even know what it means? (I learned the idiom from The Flintstones. When it was a new show.)

Only amp I own, or have ever owned. Rumble 15. Unless you're gigging a stadium, if they cant hear you through this, they need to shut the frack up and listen to the music. Also sprach the GOF.

Fortunately, I do not have to say "Put it on the cuff" any more. But I will say that, way back when I had a 60 watt tube amp (Dynaco) and 2-15" JBL's, I was not wanting for anything else.

Today, I would love to have the same setup and tell those who said it wasn't enough to either "Turn Down" or "Put me through FOH".

I would then point to my hearing aids and say, "This is what I have for trying it your way" ;).

(but those were outdoor gigs where I begged for volume)

against all probability, still in possession of My Band's ™ demo tape circa 84. As in electromagnetically organized rust on a very long lenth of tape inside a housing that fits into my car's music thingy. Except no cars have come stock with a place to play that cassette in lately. For the benefit of all, these "recordings" of us are only held as improbable potential. But Neil Young reminds us rust never sleeps.

There's this kit: Triode USA Dynaco ST-70 Tube DIY Amp Kit You can increase the capacitance to enhance the performance of the ST-70. I used to use their power supply boards in prototype amps. I still have two in an SVT. What is called temporary permanent. Some day, I'll do it right with a dedicated power supply PCB.


Dynaco Stereo 70 Series II Amplifier Manual

The manual shows how to bridge the 35W output channels for 70W.

Nice, and it's only $980 plus the cost of the tubes (and assembly)! I think I will try to squeak some tube sounds out of my Studio 40. If that doesn't work, I think that at my age, I will just go back to saying, "Remember when ?" ;).

Some old people will stop at nothing to acquire some gossip, cheat at cards, etc.

Catholics can use it to snoop near the confessional. There’s probably a rule against that though. There are rules for everything. Without rules, you can’t have guilt.

Strange thing is, when you need hearing aids, they help to compensate for what you have lost. It has been my experience that they do not give you back the hearing you once had. For example, my wife has excellent hearing. Even with my $4,000.00 +, state of the art hearing aids, she stills hears things (frequencies) that I do not...they are aids, not solutions.

i wonder if there will ever be a class action lawsuit against amp manufacturers or music player sellers. Kids today that walk around with headphones are going to have hearing problems later in life. The ones with the mega car stereos are going to be even worse off.

Probably not...most (current and smart) manufacturers have published warnings about the dangers of high volumes with their products. Kids with walk-mans and the like from the '70's may have a chance if warnings were not documented (in all earthly languages).
