First amp I used for bass was a silvertone twin 12 (the one that the amp head tucked in under the back of the speakers for storage.) That was back in the 60's. Damn thing wasn't loud enough so I shelved it and picked up a 2 12 50 watt Fender bassman. Heck , on a good day I can fart louder than that thing. (still before the day of the good ole SVT) Finally got some bigger stuff a few years back and recently moved up to an SVT calssic.(Don't complain about my spelling or I'll turn my hose on you.) Got 3 of those 8 10 thingys too. Now I can finally annoy the neighbors in style. (and I do) Someone told me I was too old to haul all that heavy crap around. I squirted him with the hose. Now if any of you have managed to get through all this drivel without falling asleep , I need to know how to post quotes on here. Saw a bunch of stuff I would like to address but I don't know how to do it. ( Maybe I did know and just forgot.) And as if annoying the neighbors with those 8 10 thingys isn't bad enough , I have a 1963 Pontiac LeMans in the garage that will do 120 in the quarter mile so now I got the cops after my a$$ too. But if they come up to my house , I'm gonna turn the hose on them too.

I love Grumpy Old Farts, they're my favorite people. You know how you hear old farts talking about how everything these days is going to hell?....that's because it is.

Recently a genus retired from our company. He was this 900-year-old mad man Hungarian engineer. Total genius, completely crazy, no social filters, always spoke his mind, incapable of lying or even being subtle.

He had this theory about the hearing loss of aging males. He noted that it begins with the upper frequency spectrum. Some men eventually completely lose the ability to perceive the upper half of the normal human hearing range while still responding lower frequencies at a functional level.

Then he brought up that most women have voices in the higher frequency range, particularly older women, in the same age range as the men losing their hearing.

He then summarized:

IT IS A SURVIVAL MECHANISM!

Does anyone have any techniques or tips on doing grumpy? For example I find being extremely hard on myself makes it a lot easier to be unforgiving to everyone else.

I read a similar thing while reading/trying to educate myself on acoustics. Apparently, the width of the brim on a 10-gallon cowboy hat and its relation to the ear just happens to cause an acoustic cancellation that just happens to hit the dominant frequency of a high-voiced woman and a crying baby. Those guys were on to something....

My first real band. That's me on the right with the Gibson acoustic. Note the old Silvertone bass amp I'm playing through. I played bass until we got a guy that had better bass gear.
